Position Overview:

The Repurpose Technician is responsible for preparing component parts for finishing by removing stickers, scuffing surfaces, and ensuring that all parts are ready for washing and painting. This position requires attention to detail, adherence to quality standards, and the ability to perform repetitive, hands-on work in a fast-paced production environment. The technician plays a critical role in supporting the finishing process by ensuring parts meet cleanliness and surface-preparation requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Sticker and Label Removal

  • Remove stickers from component parts using hand tools and/or grinding tools in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Verify complete removal of labels through visual inspection.

2. Surface Preparation

  • Use abrasive and scuffing pads to roughen surfaces for proper paint adhesion.
  • Ensure all surfaces meet preparation and quality requirements prior to painting.

3. Inspection and Quality Control

  • Perform visual inspections of component parts to ensure they meet standards before advancing to the next process.
  • Report any nonconforming parts or quality issues to supervisors.

4. Workplace Safety and Organization

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Operate tools and equipment safely and report any maintenance concerns.

5. Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Reporting Structure:

  • Reports directly to the Repurpose Supervisor.
  • This position has no direct reports.

Requirements

Key Requirements:

  • Experience: Up to 3 months of related work experience, either within the organization or externally, sufficient to achieve required quality and productivity standards.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required.
  • Skills: Ability to read, write, and follow verbal instructions. Must demonstrate sustained mental and visual attention during repetitive, fast-paced tasks. Ability to exercise judgment in making minor decisions to comply with standard operating procedures, methods, and practices. Must be safety-oriented, detail-focused, and able to work effectively as part of a production team.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with basic manufacturing practices, including surface preparation, safe use of hand tools and grinding tools, and adherence to quality standards. Basic understanding of workplace safety practices and cleanliness requirements.
  • Technology: Ability to safely operate hand tools, abrasive pads, and grinding equipment. Basic familiarity with workplace safety and quality control procedures.

Physical Requirements:

This role is primarily production-based with continuous physical activity required during component preparation tasks.

  • Mobility: Ability to move freely within a production environment and access various workstations as needed.
  • Standing and Walking: Required for sustained periods throughout the work shift while performing part preparation tasks.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Regularly required to lift or move materials weighing 5–15 pounds (approximately 40% of the time).
  • Posture and Motion: Frequent pushing, pulling, bending, and repetitive hand/arm movements required to remove stickers and scuff component parts.
  • Vision and Hearing: Must have adequate vision for close inspection of part surfaces to ensure labels are removed and surfaces meet quality standards; hearing sufficient to work safely in a production environment with machinery and equipment noise.
  • Work Environment: Primarily a manufacturing setting with exposure to dust, heat, cold, noise, vibration, oil, and other elements commonly present in production areas.
