Environmental Services Technician (or Housekeeper)
Job Summary:
The Environmental Services Technician (or Housekeeper) is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, sanitation, and safety of patient care areas, public spaces, and support areas within the facility. This includes the disinfection and cleaning of restrooms, corridors, pre-operative/ post- operative areas in compliance with infection control standards and ASC policies. The role requires a focus on patient safety, infection prevention, and maintaining a comfortable and clean environment for both patients and facility staff.
Schedule:
Monday- Thursday with occasional Fridays
7am-3:30p
Key Responsibilities:
1. Cleaning & Sanitation
Perform cleaning duties in pre-operative/ post-operative areas, corridors, restrooms, and other areas within the facility.
Disinfect surfaces, floors, walls, and furniture to meet infection control standards.
Ensure high-touch areas (e.g., doorknobs, light switches, bedrails) are disinfected frequently.
Clean and disinfect specialized equipment, such as medical carts, wheelchairs, and stretchers.
2. Infection Control
Follow proper infection prevention protocols, including the correct use of cleaning chemicals and disinfectants.
Properly dispose of waste materials in compliance with facility safety and infection control standards (e.g., biohazardous waste, sharps disposal).
3. Waste Management
Handle and dispose of regular and medical waste according to facility guidelines.
Collect and empty trash bins, ensuring that waste is appropriately separated (e.g., recyclable vs. non-recyclable, hazardous waste).
Properly dispose of soiled linen.
4. Equipment and Supplies
Maintain cleaning carts and equipment, ensuring they are stocked with necessary supplies (e.g., cleaning solutions, cloths, gloves).
Report any damaged or malfunctioning equipment to supervisors for repair or replacement.

5. Patient and Visitor Interaction
Provide a welcoming environment for patients, families, and visitors by maintaining cleanliness in waiting rooms, hallways, and patient areas.
Respond courteously to patient or family requests when possible, ensuring needs are met promptly.
6. Safety and Compliance
Follow all facility safety protocols, including those related to hazardous materials and emergency procedures (e.g., spills, accidents).
Maintain a safe work environment by ensuring areas are free of hazards, such as wet floors or obstructed walkways.
Comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and hospital-specific health and safety requirements.
7. Team Collaboration
Work closely with other facility staff, including nurses, doctors, and other departments, to ensure that cleanliness is maintained in high-priority areas.
Communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers to ensure work is completed efficiently.
Skills and Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: Previous experience in housekeeping, janitorial, or environmental services roles, preferably in a healthcare or hospital setting.
Knowledge: Familiarity with hospital infection control practices, cleaning products, and equipment. Understanding of basic safety protocols, including handling hazardous materials and waste.
Skills:
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow cleaning protocols.
Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds (or as required).
Ability to stand, bend, squat, and kneel for extended periods.
Ability to work in various hospital settings and sterile environments.
Work Environment:
Fast-paced, outpatient surgical setting.
Exposure to cleaning chemicals and potentially hazardous materials, with appropriate protective equipment provided.
