ACAP University College is seeking Field Education Liaison Officers (FELO) and Field Educators to work on a casual basis, to provide oversight and support for the students on placement.
Field Education is a core component of the Social Work program. ACAP has a continuing duty of care for students on placements and must maintain an ongoing dialogue with all parties to the placement. The Field Education Liaison Officer (FELO) responsibility is critical to the integrity of the placement, ensuring compliance with the Australian Social Work Education Accreditation Standards (ASWEAS 2023).
The key duties of the FELO include:
- Meet with the student and Field Educator at least twice during the placement, either on-site or via online meeting, and check in regarding the student's progress and adherence to the Learning Plan.
- Write the mid placement FELO report documenting the student's progression.
- Conduct an end of placement meeting with the student, facilitating critical reflection of their development while on placement.
Field Educators are expected to guide learning and development and:
- Ensure that students are developing in accordance with the outcomes of field education experiences including having relevant learning opportunities which are commensurate with their level of learning and experience as a student learner.
- Identify skills, theories, policies and practice frameworks which are relevant to students’ integration of knowledge in practice.
- Integrate the AASW Code of Ethics (2020) and AASW Practice Standards (2023) into practice, including development of values and ethics which are in line with the professional code of conduct.
Location is flexible. The successful applicant could be based at one of our campuses: Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide.
It is essential you can demonstrate:
- A minimum of five years full time, post qualifying practice experience
- Eligibility for membership of the AASW (Australian Association of Social Work) and knowledge of current AASW Practice Standards (2023)
- Maintain eligibility for a Working With Children Check, National Police Check, and copies of relevant qualifications
- Excellent time management and organisational skills with proven ability to meet internal deadlines
- A demonstrated commitment to continuing professional education
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety policies of relevance to the work environment
- Previous experience in overseeing Social Work Student Placements is desirable but not essential.
