Purpose:
Oversee operations of assembly cell in a safe and efficient manner while achieving efficiency metrics. Plan and coordinate the assignment of hourly team members to meet production demands. Coordinate communication between the department and other levels of the plant, to include engineering, maintenance, and materials. Ensure the maintenance of all production equipment and support equipment. Must be able to sort and identify finished components of style and color. Assist in training of hourly team members. Motivate and develop team to reach and exceed agreed upon objectives. Perform periodic review of their overall performance and progress toward meeting their objectives. Provide a safe and productive work environment, including housekeeping, for all team members.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain a safe working environment at all times, including housekeeping and compliance to safety rules.
- Demonstrate a general knowledge of all jobs in the department.
- Relieve team members when needed.
- Help where necessary to keep the department running smoothly.
- Record daily production numbers.
- Make sure cell area is clean at end of shift.
- Encourage team members and promote a positive attitude.
- Fill in for supervisor when needed.
- Learn new skills, support other team members, make improvements, and other actions to help the team achieve its goals.
- Perform on line repairs.
- Other duties as assigned by the Production Supervisor, Department Manager, and Operations Manager.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for facilitating communication in the hourly production team. Responsibilities include assisting the supervisor with training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
Education, Experience and Skills
- A high school diploma or general equivalency degree (GED) is preferred.
- Minimum of 1 to 3 years of manufacturing or assembly experience; experience with industrial planing or cutting equipment is preferred.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Makes independent judgments based on various alternatives. Performs complex procedures.
- Up to two weeks training to perform job to standard.
- Could handle cabinets and components up to 50% of the time.
- Understands label matrix, nomenclature, option codes, use of scanner and use of mathematics.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common business documents such as pallet tickets, manufacturing schedules, or job orders. Ability to listen and communicate effectively with co-workers and customers/clients in an effort to respond to common inquires or complaints.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts like addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to such tasks as inventory control, production tracking, material ordering, and job order verification.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an assorted number of tasks or instructions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, knell, bend, twist, and walk. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to speak and communicate with other employees, be able to hear well enough to recognize warning signals, forklifts, and announcements. Employees must be able to see different characteristics in wood products. The employee is frequently required to lift to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Indoor manufacturing environment. The noise level is usually moderate to high and hearing protection may be required. Safety glasses are required, and work gloves are recommended. Occasional overtime and weekend work required.
