About the Department
Position Duties

- Plans, coordinates, and implements daily activities in the plant maintenance area of Public Services; coordinates, develops and oversees planning corrective and preventative maintenance; develops and oversees programs; prepares and administers special projects regarding maintenance function.
- Establishes, coordinates and oversees contractors/vendors related to city owned buildings and structures; develops specs for replacement or repair parts and gathers quotes for repairs or replacement parts and/or services.
- Schedules and coordinates the maintenance and repair of equipment; prepares list of equipment to be replaced or used for maintenance and construction functions.
- Provides customer service and handles citizen contact, service requests and complaints; determines validity of request, provides information and determines if request can be fulfilled.
- Serves as Technical Facilitator and interfaces with various departments within the City of Kalamazoo . Supervises staff; assists in new employee selection; provides employee training; conducts employee evaluations and administers discipline; sets goals and objectives; reviews union grievances.
- May recommend purchases, cost savings measures, and assists with the development of the budget; may be responsible for inventory control.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma required; Associate’s degree in a related field is preferred
- Minimum of five (5) years of specialized and/or technical training in related discipline.
- Previous supervisory experience in a facilities maintenance setting preferred.
- Certification in facilities management preferred.
- High Pressure Boiler Operator or Stationary Engineer License preferred.
- Knowledge of International Plumbing Code.
- Possession of valid State of Michigan driver's license.
- Ability to respond 24/7 in case of emergency.
- Strong, clear communicator and excellent interpersonal skills; proven ability to effectively and positively communicate with the public and all levels within the organization.
- Demonstrates a sense of urgency, prioritizes well, shows energy, responds to opportunities, instills urgency in others, and meets deadlines.
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
