Families in Transition is looking for a strategic and dynamic Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join our executive leadership team. This role is crucial for overseeing the operations and strategy of our $42 million real estate portfolio, which supports our mission to provide housing and services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

You'll partner directly with the CEO and other senior leaders to ensure the overall success and performance of our housing and benefits programs. The ideal candidate is an inspiring leader with a strong background in strategic planning, continuous improvement, and property management. You should be able to navigate ambiguity, drive change, and maintain a people-first culture.


What You'll Do

  • Lead Operations and Strategy: Develop and implement a strategic operations plan to optimize resources, funding, and capital needs for our real estate assets while ensuring strict compliance with all grant requirements and contracts.
  • Team Leadership and Oversight: Directly oversee our Property Management, Maintenance, and Information Technology teams, focusing on efficiency and performance. You'll also provide mentorship and coaching to support the growth and development of your teams.
  • Financial and Compliance Management: Collaborate with the CFO to create and manage annual and building-specific budgets. You'll ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all compliance reporting and stay up-to-date on legislative and regulatory changes.
  • Drive Organizational Culture: Champion our mission, vision, and values, fostering a positive and collaborative environment across all teams. You'll play a key role in developing and continuously improving internal functions and policies.
  • Strategic Planning and Reporting: Conduct capital needs assessments and create long-term strategies for property development. You'll also develop goals, key performance indicators (KPIs), and dashboards to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of our operations.
  • Executive Support: Act as the second in command in the CEO's absence, demonstrating steadfast resolve and personal integrity. You'll also attend board meetings, providing updates and strategic insights to board members.

What We're Looking For

  • Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Business Management or a related field is required. A Master's Degree is preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, with at least 5 years in an executive leadership role. Experience in a non-profit environment is a plus.

Skills:

Hands-on experience with strategic planning, business development, and continuous improvement.

Strong knowledge of data analysis, performance metrics, and dashboard creation.

Outstanding organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.Exceptional leadership and communication abilities, with a focus on coaching and inspiring others.Aptitude for adapting to change and working with ambiguity.Certifications in Property Management are a plus.
