About the Department
The purpose of this classification is to facilitate and expedite automotive service for user-departments by performing intake of vehicles, completing and initial assessment of problems, assigning work to technicians, and serving as a liaison to the customers.
Position Duties
Performs customer service functions: assigns workorders, provides information and assistance related to department services, activities, procedures, forms, or other issues; responds to questions and complaints; provides information regarding service times and progress; researches problems; and initiates problem resolution.
Processes requests for vehicle maintenance and repairs: receives and reviews requests; researches technical services bulletins, warranties, and recalls; determines whether maintenance and repairs are completed in-house or outsourced; schedules appointments; generates and assigns work orders; monitors progress of work; charges parts and labor to work orders; and closes out work orders after completion.
Maintains vehicle information, maintenance and repair records in computerized system: logs vehicle make, model and year; assigns department charge code; sets up vehicle information in fuel system; logs mileage and hours of use; maintains documentation regarding warranties and completed maintenance and repairs; and deletes information from system once vehicles are sold or no longer in use.
Compiles data and prepares a variety of reports, including department work order reports, fuel usage reports, shop production reports, service repair summaries, and year end and month-end reports.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by vocational or technical training in automotive work and four years of experience in the automotive industry in a role that requires a functional understanding of the mechanical repair of vehicles.
Minimum Qualifications
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Must possess and maintain two (2) Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications. If Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications are not currently held, then these must be obtained within 8 months of the date of hire.
Other Qualifications
Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and prolonged standing, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
Sensory Requirements
Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, smoke, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, fire, unsafe structures, heights, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, explosives, firearms, water hazards, violence, disease, pathogenic substances, or rude/irate customers.
