The Outreach Navigator Specialist is responsible for advancing the Clean Energy Initiative by designing and executing targeted outreach and community education strategies. This position drives efforts to enhance stakeholder engagement and boost program participation across diverse communities. The Navigator, in conjunction with partners, executes strategic efforts to connect with individuals, community organizations, and industry leaders, with a focus on educating the public about the region’s emerging clean energy economy. Central to the role is cultivating meaningful relationships, identifying community needs, and partnering with training providers to strengthen talent pipelines and support workforce development throughout the clean energy sector.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

Community Outreach

  • Develop and execute outreach events and activities in a tri-county area (Winnebago, Boone, and Stephenson counties).
  • Represent the program at community meetings, forums, and public events.
  • Facilitates educational workshops, presentations, and events that promote participation in Clean Energy related training programs.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with individuals and partner agencies throughout the region
  • Demonstrate adaptability when working with people from diverse social, economic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Maintain confidentiality and strong ethical practices while working with participants.

Communication

  • Ensure marketing and outreach efforts effectively reach underserved communities.
  • Promote awareness of Clean Energy workforce programs through sharing information with organizations, individuals, and key stakeholders.
  • Provide referrals and support to individuals seeking enrollment in Clean Energy related training programs.

Community Partnerships

  • Collaborate with partners to design and implement strategies that increase community awareness of Clean Energy training programs and initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with educational institutions and community organizations to connect with eligible participants.
  • Assist community partners with meeting the goals and deliverables outlined by the Navigator grant.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to align outreach strategies with broader program goals

Administrative

  • Enters all outreach activities and efforts in related program systems.
  • Collect and analyze feedback to continuously improve outreach efforts and reflect on community needs.

Qualifications & Basic Job Requirements:

  • A combination of education and relevant work experience that aligns with the duties of this position.  Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred.  
  • Working knowledge of clean energy and workforce development preferred.
  • Proven ability to work with individuals facing barriers to employment and communicate effectively across diverse populations.
  • Experience in outreach, community organizing, and public engagement
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Ability to travel to locations within Goodwill’s territory on a regular schedule. Driver’s license and proof of auto insurance required.

Environment:

This position is based in an office setting at the Goodwill Home Office, with regular travel to  community sites in Winnebago, Boone, and Stephenson counties. The environment is typically climate-controlled, though temperature may vary slightly between locations. Noise levels are generally moderate, consistent with an office environment.  The role involves a mix of desk work, meetings, and on-site visits. Standard work hours are daytime, with occasional evening or weekend commitments to support programs, meetings, or community events. Reliable transportation and the ability to travel between sites are required.

Compensation: $22 - $27.50/hour
