Job Summary: Vice President of Philanthropy to lead, grow, and innovate all aspects of fundraising, donor engagement, and stewardship in support of its compassionate end-of-life care mission. As a key member of the leadership team, the Vice President will be responsible for developing and executing philanthropic initiatives that sustain and expand programs, services, and endowment needs across the state. This leader will advance a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization while building long-term relationships with donors, corporate partners, and community stakeholders. In addition to strategic oversight, the Vice President will directly cultivate, solicit, and steward gifts ranging from $500 to $10,000+ from individuals and corporations, maintaining an active portfolio of 80 to 120 donors and prospects. The role includes ensuring alignment with the Ohio’s Hospice Foundation’s action plans, budgets, and policies, while also contributing to the development of annual fundraising strategies and expense budgets. The Vice President will serve as a trusted representative of the Foundation President when needed, playing a visible and engaged role in donor relations, organizational leadership, and community presence to ensure the long-term sustainability of Ohio’s Hospice’s mission.

What You Should Know About the VP of Philanthropy: 

  • This is a full-time exempt role. 
  • Hours are: 8am-5pm 

VP of Philanthropy Qualifications: 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent experience (preferably in Marketing, Communications, or a related field); advanced degree or CFRE certification is a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership in fundraising, preferably within healthcare, hospice, or nonprofit sectors.
  • Fundraising Expertise: Demonstrated success in individual and institutional fundraising, including donor solicitation and cultivation, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, grants, and membership campaigns.
  • Campaign Leadership: Proven track record of leading successful fundraising campaigns and earned income strategies.
  • Relationship Management: Experience working collaboratively with boards, donors, and community leaders in a strategic manner.
  • Leadership & Management: Strong leadership, team-building, and people management skills.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and public speaking abilities.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Word; experience with Raiser’s Edge or similar fundraising software required; Excel competency is a plus.
  • Organizational Abilities: Strong ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Event & Travel Flexibility: Willingness and ability to attend evening/weekend events regularly and travel as needed.
  • Licensure: Valid Ohio driver’s license and current state-minimum auto insurance required.
  • Local Knowledge: Familiarity with Ohio’s philanthropic landscape is preferred.
