FARMERS MUTUAL HAIL INSURANCE COMPANY OF IOWA

Are you someone who enjoys planning events? Looking for an internship to learn how this works in the business world?  Farmers Mutual Hail (located in West Des Moines) is currently looking for an enthusiastic and detail-focused undergraduate to be our new Meeting & Events Intern for our 2026 summer internship program.  This is a paid internship starting Monday, May 18 through Friday, August 7, working up to 40 hours per week for the summer. This is not a remote internship. We are looking for currently enrolled college students who are close to the West Des Moines area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

• Assists with planning of meetings and events for the organization, especially our St. Baldrick’s fundraising event, strategic customer events, and employee appreciation events.
• Supports attendee management, such as monitoring registrations and processing attendee updates.
• Assists with venue and vendor sourcing as needed.
• Assists with food and beverage planning for events.
• Provides on-site support for events.
• Assist with writing projects for meetings and events.
• Assists with budget and expense tracking.

Skills and Competencies:

• Qualified candidates must possess and demonstrate the ability to handle multiple concurrent projects and details.
• Ability to be detail-oriented and organized.
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word; Microsoft Outlook experience preferred.
• Written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are necessary.
• Ability to work well with a team. 
• A can-do mindset.

Qualifications:

• Must be a currently-enrolled sophomore, junior or senior at an undergraduate college or university pursuing a degree in Event Management, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field. (May 2026 graduates will not be eligible.)
• Occasional evening work for events may be required.
