We are looking for an energetic, experienced FSQA Manager to lead our quality team in our NC location. The FSQA Manager is responsible for training all QA Technicians on production policies and programs, ensuring the conformity of the raw materials and finished goods to establish quality and specification standards. The FSQA Manager will also train the QA Technicians to ensure that proper testing procedures are in place and are being properly utilized, as well as our compliance with production specifications. In addition, this position will also be responsible for assisting in the implementation of Food Safety and Quality Standards and overseeing the batching process.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide periodic training status reports to management and relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Technical Department to ensure all products meet established quality specifications.
- Lead and manage food safety and quality audits, including GFSI-recognized certification programs such as FSSC 22000, SQF and BRC; oversee audit preparation, documentation, and follow-up activities to ensure compliance and continuous improvement. GFSI scheme certification preferred.
- Support the Quality Assurance (QA) Department in executing core QA functions.
- Train QA Technicians on quality assurance testing procedures and protocols.
- Conduct and oversee testing of finished products to verify compliance with quality and food safety standards.
- Ensure proper testing methods and procedures are consistently applied to all finished goods.
- Identify and recommend equipment necessary for effective quality assurance testing.
- Document and report results of all quality tests performed.
- Investigate and document all instances of non-conforming products.
- Provide daily support to production and warehouse teams in resolving operational issues.
- Develop and maintain daily and weekly reports to communicate production and process control status.
- Lead investigations and resolution efforts for internal and customer product complaints.
- Train QA Technicians on complaint investigation procedures and communication of findings.
- Assist in the transition of new products into full-scale production.
- Assist Product Development in conducting comparative testing of competitor products and evaluating ingredients for supplier approval or cost/quality optimization.
- Actively participate in the Food Safety Committee meetings and contribute to food safety initiatives.
- Develop and implement quality inspection protocols; participate in food safety inspections.
- Manage QA personnel, including training, task assignment, performance appraisal, recognition, and disciplinary actions.
- Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and dedicated tools in designated work areas.
- Provide support to QA Technicians and assume their responsibilities during absences.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- B.S. in Food Science, Chemistry or another science-related field required.
- Prior experience in a laboratory environment.
- Education may be substituted for experience.
- Preferred: Candidates with GFSI-recognized certification will be prioritized due to their advanced knowledge of food safety management systems, including HACCP and internal auditing.
- Food manufacturing background preferred.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization and foster great team-building abilities.
- Must be able to adapt quickly to changes in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with inventory management systems is highly preferred.
- Comfortable spending the majority of time on the production floor rather than in an office.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
