Reporting directly to the President, the Vice President of Student Affairs/Dean of Students
(VPSA) serves as a vital member of the President’s Executive Cabinet and as the primary leader
of student engagement at historic Talladega College, the oldest private HBCU in the State of
Alabama.
l member of the College’s senior leadership team and provides strategic direction, vision, and
oversight for all aspects of student life. The VPSA is charged with fostering a vibrant, inclusive,
and supportive campus environment that prioritizes student success, engagement, and well-
being.
The VPSA will oversee a comprehensive portfolio that includes Residence Life, Student
Activities, the Marching Tornado Band, Counseling Services, Career Planning and Placement,
Student Judicial Affairs, Greek Life, and Campus Police. The VPSA will work closely with the
President, faculty, staff, and students to elevate the Talladega College student experience,
ensuring a campus culture that reflects excellence, accountability, belonging, and community
pride.
Responsibilities
 Provide visionary leadership and administrative oversight for all student affairs functions,
programs, and initiatives designed to enhance student development, learning, retention,
and graduation outcomes.
 Serve as the chief student conduct officer, overseeing all non-academic student judicial
matters while ensuring fairness, transparency, compliance, and due process in all
disciplinary actions.
 Lead planning, coordination, and successful execution of major campus traditions,
including New Student Orientation, Freshman Week, College Homecoming, and other
large-scale student-centered events that foster school spirit and community engagement.
 Provide oversight of Greek Life, ensuring alignment with institutional values, safety,
leadership development, and compliance with national, state, and college policies.
 Promote holistic student development by integrating academic support, personal
counseling, career services, and co-curricular activities into a seamless network of
student success initiatives.
 Collaborate across divisions to strengthen student engagement, belonging, and
persistence, while cultivating a campus environment that values diversity, equity,
inclusion, and social responsibility.
 Partner with faculty and staff to advance student learning, support retention efforts, and
integrate academic and co-curricular experiences.

 Direct and manage the budgets of all Student Affairs units, aligning financial resources
with institutional priorities and student-centered initiatives.
 Supervise and mentor Student Affairs professionals, ensuring a culture of accountability,
continuous improvement, and professional growth.
 Provide direct oversight of the Talladega College Police Department, ensuring a safe,
secure, and welcoming campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
 Represent Student Affairs in senior leadership discussions, institutional strategic
planning, accreditation activities, and crisis management.
 Develop partnerships with external organizations, alumni, and community stakeholders to
enhance student opportunities, internships, and career pipelines.
 Perform other duties as assigned by the President.
Qualifications
 A terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., or J.D.) is strongly preferred. A master’s degree in
counseling, psychology, higher education administration, or a related field is required.
 At least five years of progressive measurable leadership experience in higher education
student affairs, with demonstrated success in student development, engagement, and
retention initiatives.
 Experience in student affairs planning, strategic planning, and creating strong linkages
between academic departments and student support services.
 Administrative and/or teaching experience in higher education is preferred.
 Demonstrated experience in leading student conduct processes, supervising Greek Life,
and managing large-scale campus events such as Homecoming.
 Direct experience managing or working closely with a campus police department is
strongly preferred.
 A proven record of advancing diversity, inclusion, and social justice initiatives in higher
education.
 Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to inspire
trust, build consensus, and work collaboratively across constituencies.
 A student-centered leader who demonstrates integrity, accountability, and a commitment
to the mission of Talladega College and HBCU excellence.
