Caregiver Training Progam en Valley VNA Senior Care

This three-week-long course combines classroom learning, practical application, and hands-on experience with residents to ensure a well-rounded training experience. This is designed for individuals who would like to start their career in caregiving but do not have prior experience. Take this course to learn how to be a new caregiver at Valley VNA and get paid while you learn!

Throughout the class, students learn a variety of critical caregiving skills for providing care to our residents. Each skill is discussed and demonstrated, supported by educational videos, followed by practice sessions using manikins or role-playing with fellow students. Once proficient, students apply these skills on the floor under close supervision.

The training curriculum is designed to expand student's knowledge with each lesson. Key skills covered include:

• Taking vitals and understanding nutrition and special diets
• Bed making and maintaining proper body mechanics
• Dressing and undressing residents
• Safe transfers, including the use of equipment like Hoyer lifts and sit-to-stand devices
• Personal care, such as oral hygiene, nail care, catheter care, peri care, and assistance with incontinence products
• Bathing techniques, including showers and bed baths
• Supporting residents with life enrichment activities
• Effective use of oxygen and other medical supports
