Salary:  £6,690.20-£8,296 per year FTE: £31,451-£41,480
Job Type: 1 Fixed term position - part time (7 hours per week)

The School of Academic Studies within The City of Liverpool College delivers a range of courses within the humanities and social sciences subjects including GCSE and A level programmes. We are seeking a highly qualified individual who can teach year 2 A Level Geography (one day a week). Specific experience of previously delivering A level Geography is essential.


We have built strong links with local, regional and national Higher Education Institutions, and our students benefit from this. We are seeking a lecturer who can build on these links, and further strengthen our team by providing effective and stimulating opportunities for all students, through high quality teaching, learning and assessment

Key Responsibilities


  1. To contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of College life.
  2.  To contribute to the College and curriculum area strategic objectives and to actively engage in the annual review.
  3.  To be aware of national developments in subject area and update knowledge and skills on an annual basis.
  4.  To plan, prepare and deliver high quality lessons in order to achieve effective management of the learning process.
  5.  Plan and use a range of effective and appropriate teaching and learning techniques to engage and motivate students and encourage independence and student autonomy.
  6.  Establish a purposeful and motivating learning environment where students feel safe, secure, confident and valued.
  7. Establish and maintain procedures with students which promote and maintain appropriate behaviour, communication and respect for others, while challenging discriminatory behaviour and attitudes.
  8.  To set and mark work in accordance with College and School Assessment policies.
  9.  To track all students’ progress and attendance in accordance with agreed College systems and policies.
  10. To provide a balance of appropriate teaching styles and learning experiences.
  11.  To be aware of external/internal assessment procedures and to play and appropriate part in their Implementation.
  12.  Evaluate and improve own communication skills to maximise effective communication and overcome barriers.
  13. To liaise with Head of School in contributing to the design of programmes and teaching approaches which will enable curriculum areas to achieve high standards and value added.
  14.  To liaise with Head of School and curriculum teams in contributing to the administration necessary to support the teaching, learning and assessment within the subject area.
  15.  To review own professional development needs and to participate fully in future training and development.
  16. To communicate and consult with parents, carers and students including Parent’s Evening, Welcome Evenings, events and open evenings.
  17.  To ensure that all students in the subject area comply with College’s policies and procedures.
  18.  To provide enrichment opportunities that are exciting, motivating and enhance the student experience.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Essential Criteria:
  1. Educated to Level 6 e.g. Degree or equivalent in a related degree.
  2. A recognised Teaching qualification or vocational experience
  3. Successful recent previous teaching experience with 16-18 year olds
  4. Professional qualification relevant to the subject area
  5. Excellent computer literacy – ability to use the current IT programs of the College
  6. Proven relevant experience of curriculum planning, development & delivery.
  7. Knowledge and understanding of Access to HE provision.
  8. Engaged in Continuing Professional Development
  9. Minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or willingness to complete
  10. High level of communication and interpersonal skills
  11. Ability to set high standards for students, colleagues and for themselves

Desirable Criteria: 
  1. Experience of resource based learning
  2. Experience as a subject examiner.
  3. Membership of a relevant professional body
  4. Experience of assessing students’ needs and planning curriculum for their benefit including Technology Enhanced Learning
  5. Good understanding of curriculum development to meet the training needs of employers
  6. Good understanding of quality assurance and improvement processes
