Job Description Summary
Organizational Summary Statement:The Central Maryland Research and Education Center (CMREC) Beltsville Facility located in Laurel Maryland has 287 acres and is stationed in northern Prince George’s County on property owned by USDA-BARC. The facilities are managed by the Maryland Agricultural Experiment Station (MAES) under the guidance established in a Cooperative Agreement with USDA-BARC. This facility is primarily used for basic and applied agronomic crop related research and Extension projects.
To provide assistance and support to the Facility Manager in the daily operations of research and outreach programs located at the Beltsville Facility. Will work with Manager to coordinate activities for researchers and others performing research and extension activities at the facility. Will organize and carry out field work; tilling, planting, fertilizing, spraying, harvesting for traditional, non-traditional agricultural crops and research plots. Will also operate farm equipment, farm tractors (180 hsp & less), plows, disc, planters, combines and farm trucks requiring either a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License. Will assume responsibilities of Facility Manager when manager is absent from facility.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED AND Six years progressively responsible experience in agriculture work, four years of which must have been in laboratory or field research and two years of which must have been in a lead or supervisory capacity. Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
Thorough knowledge of and skill in the use of farm equipment. General knowledge of and ability to use related laboratory equipment. General knowledge of basic mathematics and ability to perform mathematical and algebraic calculations. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Licenses:
Maryland Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or to be attained within one year of employment.
Maryland Public Agency Applicator Certification or to be attained within two years of employment.
Physical Demands:
Ability to work in harsh work environment - with heavy lifting, extreme weather conditions, hazardous materials, working environment may have allergens -- dust, mold, grasses, etc. Must wear and work in personal protective clothing/equipment.
