As the Director, Marine Maintenance, you will lead the complex work of maintenance, repair, and asset condition tracking to protect and improve Port of Seattle waterfront assets and support operations. You will also ensure management of the representative workforce and staff and prudent fiscal management of maintenance operations.
You will provide daily operations mentoring, guidance, and assistance for staff by providing oversight of work, scheduling, planning, and resource allocation.
You will act as a primary decision-maker for hiring, discipline, and termination of staff including progressive discipline and grievance resolution in accordance with labor contracts and port policy. You will effectively support and manage apprenticeship and internship programs.
You will be a participant in the Maritime Leadership team including, develop and implement strategic business goals and objectives. You will also foster and support continuous improvement strategies.
You will participate in organizational leadership teams, including, but not limited to, the Safety Leadership Team, and Change Team sponsor for the Office of Equity and Diversity.
You will ensure workforce safety by fostering a safety culture, providing training, proper equipment, and compliance with regulations.
You will develop and implement labor strategies in support of department goals. You will also negotiate labor contracts in concert with Port of Seattle Labor Relations.
You will manage budget including determining budget priorities and provide oversight of budget preparation, justifications, and expenditures, and make allocation decisions on capital and expense budgets.
You will provide leadership to staff by setting direction, developing, communicating, and inculcating vision, mission, and values. You will also ensure that the department accomplishes its missions, business plans, and objectives.
You will ensure Marine Maintenance regulatory and policy compliance, including labor law, health and safety, permits, licenses, and environmental regulatory compliance. You will also act as signature of record for Marine Maintenance facilities and operations related permits.
You will provide primary oversight of Port of Seattle parks and public access sites for maintenance, repair, and day use agreements. You will also provide operational management and oversight of Stormwater Utility teams.

Experienced – You have eight (8) years of experience in managing facilities and operations and four (4) years supervising staff and managing a function of operation and/or facilities.
Desired – We hope you have a Preferred Certified Facilities Management (CFM), Preferred Facility Management Professional (FMP) certification. We also hope you have experience managing represented/unionized staff.

Driver’s License – You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.
Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. You may be required to work during emergencies.
Work Environment - This work will take place in an office /shop/ field setting environment.
Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within the first three months of employment.
