FUTURE SALARY INCREASE
** June 2026 – 3.90% increase to base pay (3.5% Across-the-Board + .40% Market Adjustment)
** June 2027 – 3.40% increase to base pay (3.0% Across-the- Board + .40% Market Adjustment)
This is a non-sworn position that is characterized by an exceptionally high degree of responsibility for accuracy and quality of work and for great attention to detail in performing specialized analysis and comparison of latent prints for the identification of persons.
The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below.
- Job Offer and Background Process begins: Shortly after the interviews. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
- Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
- Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in forensics, administration of justice, evidence technology, biology, chemistry, or a closely related field, which must have included one (1) year of internship with an accredited forensic services provider or criminal justice agency in latent print development or with an accredited forensic services provider or criminal justice agency analyzing friction ridge impressions for usability and making comparisons; OR,
- An associate's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in administration of justice, evidence technology, biology, chemistry, or a closely related field; AND at least one (1) year of experience with an accredited forensic services provider or criminal justice agency in latent print development, AND at least one (1) year of experience with an accredited forensic services provider or criminal justice agency in analyzing friction ridge impressions for usability and making comparisons; OR,
- Four (4) years of experience with an accredited forensic services provider or criminal justice agency analyzing friction ridge impressions for usability and making comparisons.
- Certification as a Latent Print Examiner through the International Association of Identification (IAI) may substitute for up to one year of experience in analyzing friction ridge impressions for usability and making comparisons for all three options listed above.

Condition of Employment:
As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.
Evaluation:
The names of qualified candidates will be placed on a six (6) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment application and supplemental questionnaire. Please ensure all information is complete and accurate as the responses you provide on the supplemental application form will be reviewed using an automated evaluation system. If you are successful in the initial screening process your application will be reviewed individually to confirm that the information you provided is accurate and qualifying.
