Position Overview

The Supervisor role is responsible for smooth day-to-day supervision of High Throughput Molecular Lab (HTML) personnel and operations in a fast paced, high throughput lab. Responsibilities include GLP lab functions such as lab resources and budget management, process improvements, and project planning within the IM Department.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Provide day-to-day supervision of lab personnel at Adaptive Biotechnology’s HTML Operation:
    • Responsibilities may include scheduling/task assignment within a lab area and monitoring of area team effectiveness and efficiency.
    • Utilize frequent and varied communication across diverse personnel for performance management.
    • Facilitate orientation for new personnel within a lab area and ensure training occurs in a timely manner.
    • Ensure EHS policies and procedures are being followed and opportunities for improvements are escalated to EHS and management.
    • Manage lab reagents in coordination with other lab users and supply chain.
    • Manage, report and track equipment issues to ensure smooth lab operation.
  • Manage experiment scheduling for technicians.
  • Coordinate cross-functional resource planning activities, representing HTML on various project teams within the Adaptive Biotechnologies Organization.
    • Tracking projects from other teams within Adaptive
    • Communicating timelines and due dates of projects
    • Creating/approving sales orders
  • Continue to develop and maintain employee onboarding tools within Teams.
  • Review and finalize data produced within HTML.
  • Continue to help with wet lab work when necessary.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, immunology, chemistry, or other related field.
  • 7+ years of laboratory or related experience (or Master’s degree with 3+ years of experience).
  • Some supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of project goals.
  • Ability to defend results and findings in a formal setting, including project team meetings.
  • Proven organization skills.
  • Working knowledge of Benchling, SmartSheet, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint preferred
  • Ability to work closely and collaboratively with a team of other researchers.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and spoken, with a service-oriented attitude.
  • Experienced in multi-site space planning and laboratory build out preferred
  • Experience with developing or improvement of molecular assays preferred.
  • Experience with Illumina Sequencing platforms preferred.
  • Demonstrated hands on leadership skills.
  • Exhibited ability to think strategically when planning, managing teams, and managing processes.

Working Conditions

Job requires working in a lab and may require handling biological material including blood, bone marrow, and tissue. Work occasionally requires flexible and/or extended hours. 

Physical Requirements

Staff may have to periodically spend extended periods of time standing/sitting within the lab while executing repetitive work, which also includes:

  • Lift <20 pounds regularly
  • Lift >20 pounds occasionally
  • Lift/move large freezers and fridges with the assistance of dollies and carts
  • Occasionally spend <5 minutes in walk-in -20°C freezer, wearing insulated coat

Constant work in labs, following all guidelines and protective measures.


Compensation

Salary Range: $79,400 - $119,200

Other compensation elements include:

  • equity grant
  • bonus eligible

Adaptive’s posted compensation information includes a base salary (or hourly rate) range and summary of other available total compensation. The base salary range represents a minimum-to-maximum salary (or hourly rate) available to candidates upon extension of offer. Base salary is thoughtfully considered upon offer and is determined through multiple evaluation checks throughout the interview process, including: a candidate’s ability to meet minimum qualifications (skills/experience/education), a candidate’s ability to thoughtfully address preferred qualifications, current market conditions, and internal pay equity. Listed base salary is exclusive of bonus, commission, equity, differential pay, benefits, and other incentives.
