Job Summary:
Compliance Management International is seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Health and Safety Specialist with 1–5 years of experience in general industry environments to support our chemical manufacturing operations. The successful candidate will help develop, implement, and monitor safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA standards and company policies, with a strong emphasis on chemical safety, hazard communication, and industrial hygiene.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of site safety programs, procedures, and training.
- Monitor workplace conditions to identify and mitigate safety hazards in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910 (General Industry Standards).
- Conduct routine safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments (JHAs, PHAs, etc.) specific to chemical manufacturing operations.
- Assist with the development and delivery of safety training (HazCom, Lockout/Tagout, PPE, confined space, etc.).
- Support incident investigations, root cause analyses, and the implementation of corrective/preventive actions.
- Maintain and review OSHA logs (300, 300A, 301) and ensure accurate classification of recordable injuries and illnesses.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations and industry standards (e.g., NFPA, ANSI).
- Participate in chemical hazard analysis, SDS reviews, and process safety-related programs.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure safe work practices.
- Track and analyze safety metrics and report trends to EHS leadership.
Qualifications:
- 1–5 years of experience in health and safety roles within general industry (chemical manufacturing or related field preferred).
- Working knowledge of OSHA 1910 General Industry regulations.
- Familiarity with hazard communication (HazCom), process safety, and industrial hygiene principles.
- Experience conducting safety training and audits in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software/tools.
Education and Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field (required).
- ASP certification (preferred); willingness to pursue CSP is a plus.
- OSHA 30-hour General Industry card (preferred or must be obtained within 6 months of hire).
- First Aid/CPR certification (preferred).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to walk, stand, or climb ladders/stairs for extended periods within an industrial plant environment.
- Must be able to wear required PPE including respirators, hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, and hearing protection.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs occasionally.
- Work in both indoor and outdoor conditions, including temperature variations and exposure to dust, fumes, and chemical substances.
- Must be able to respond to emergency situations, including alarms, spill response, and evacuation procedures.
Work Environment:
This position is based at a chemical manufacturing facility. The role requires routine presence in production areas, laboratories, and storage locations with exposure to potentially hazardous materials. Strict adherence to site safety protocols is mandatory.
