Job Summary

The Stroke Program Coordinator is responsible for the provision of effective high quality patient care delivery for Stroke patients across the continuum of care. Complies with regulatory and professional standards, fosters interdisciplinary collaborative relationships within the department, and works closely with physicians and hospital leaders in establishing a collegial and interdisciplinary patient care environment. In collaboration with Nursing Leadership, this position is accountable for establishing best practices and guidelines for the management of stroke patients, the development education of personnel caring for stroke patients, and compliance with regulatory and professional standards, strategic planning and the fostering of interdisciplinary collaborative relationships within the organization.

Licensure and Certification:

  • Current California RN license
  • Current BLS Provider Card
  • Certified Neuroscience Nurse (CNRN) preferred
  • NIH Stroke Certification preferred

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing required
  • Master’s degree in related field preferred

Experience:

  • Five (5) years current nursing experience; preferably in ICU or ER
  • Experience in brain injury and/or hemorrhagic/ischemic stroke patients, with demonstration of competent clinical judgment and leadership ability preferred
  • Clinical program management experience preferred

Knowledge and Skills:

  • State and Federal regulatory requirements
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Analytical skills including data aggregation and analysis
  • Knowledge of supervisory theories, principles, practices, techniques and methods
  • Ability to manage staff and change through collaborative and positive leadership skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members, hospital staff, physicians and patients
  • Demonstrated ability in interpersonal relationships which enhances communication, promotes conflict resolution, and facilitates staff development
  • Skill and knowledge to sustain and evaluate clinical competence for the specific age and type of patient population served
  • Strong data management, experience in performance improvement measures preferred

     

Physical Demands – Clerical/Administrative Non-Patient Care:

  • Frequent sitting and standing/walking with frequent position change.
  • Continuous use of bilateral upper extremities in fine motor activities requiring fingering, grasping, and forward reaching between waist and chest level.
  • Occasional/intermittent reaching at or above shoulder level.
  • Occasional/intermittent bending, squatting, kneeling, pushing/pulling, twisting, and climbing.
  • Occasional/intermittent lifting and carrying objects/equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Continuous use of near vision, hearing and verbal communication skills in handling telephone calls, interacting with customers and co-workers and performing job duties.
