A private family in Westchester is beginning an early search for a warm, professional, and reliable live-in/out candidate for a hybrid role combining after-school nanny and governess duties. The position involves caring for gifted elementary-age children.The family is open to full-time, or part-time, depending on the ideal candidate's preferred schedule. A general schedule outline is Tuesday-Saturday, weekday hours 3pm-7pm, weekend hours 9am-7pm, for a total of 26 hours per week. The family would love a local candidate who is already within an easy commute to the area.
Childcare/Governess Duties:
- Provide after-school care for two school-aged children
- Intellectual and emotional guidance (gifted and talented level)
- Support children with homework, educational enrichment, and developmentally appropriate activities.
- Coordinate playdates, extracurriculars, and school pickups/drop-offs as needed.
- Support consistency with the children’s routines and expectations at home
- Create a positive, attentive, and developmentally appropriate environment
Household Support:
- Tidy and organize children’s areas (bedrooms, playrooms, study areas).
- Prepare or assist with simple, healthy children’s meal prep.
Other
- Some flexibility around schedule
- Flexibility to work some evenings/weekends will be requested with advance notice.
- Not required but a plus: musician, swims, speaks Spanish, acting experience
- Warm and friendly, with a soft touch. Able to help maintain routines and guide the children, while also maintaining respect and value for the parents and their preferences.
- Collaborative - someone with expertise, but able to provide suggestions and recommendations in a respectful and collaborative way
- Prior experience working in private households.
- Team player and able to work in a home with other staff and involved parents.
- Strong background in childcare and/or governess roles.
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and discreet.
- Flexible mindset and willingness to adapt to evolving family needs.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
- Not required but a plus: musician, swims, speaks Spanish, acting experience
- Must be legal to work in the US
- Competitive salary, commensurate with experience, with hourly rate starting at $45+
