I. PURPOSE/FUNCTION OF PROGRAM:

The REGIONS residential program will provide a home-like environment with a therapeutic based milieu for JJ involved male adolescents with a rehabilitation and treatment focus. The program is designed to reduce risk and recidivism and will take the lead on assisting the adolescent, family and stakeholders with the youth’s transition plan back into the community.


II. POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Milieu Coordinator, under the direction of the Program Manager, structures the therapeutic milieu, ensuring a safe, orderly, model compliant and clean unit where trauma informed daily programming and behavior management can be effectively provided. The Milieu Coordinator focuses on ensuring that emergency safety interventions (TCI) and the TRI model are implemented by the direct care staff and supervisors in a trauma informed, safe, effective, and model/license adherent manner. 


III. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist with overseeing compliance with CSSD contract requirements such as Performance Based Standards data collection
  2. Ensures that daily programming and behavior management, with emphasis on TRI Model and TCI are effectively and safely implemented
  3. Ensures through training, observation, and modeling that best practices for use of TCI and other milieu-based crisis interventions are being utilized in the program
  4. Works with the Program Manager to monitor and provide ongoing training to direct care staff to reduce the use of physical restraints as a component of crisis interventions
  5. Works with the Program Manager and Administrative Assistant to the Residency Programs to ensure that the milieu is staffed appropriately to provide safe supervision while maintaining appropriate ratios to meet the client’s needs
  6. Completes camera observations at least once per week to ensure that staff are appropriately engaging and supervising clients, and use observations to provide ongoing feedback to encourage overall improvement
  7. Completes program observations to ensure that staff are appropriately engaged and supervising clients; and uses the observations to provide ongoing feedback to encourage continued growth and improvement in the REGIONS program
  8. Coordinates and ensures the completion of staff observations
  9. Completes walk-throughs to ensure safety of the programs and coordinates with the maintenance department to ensure the safety of clients and staff related to the facility structure
  10. Supervises 3rd shift supervisors including disciplining and performing evaluations.
  11. Assist the Program Manager with interviewing candidates for Mental Health Worker positions.
  12. Takes charge of critical and emergency situations when the Program Manager and/or director is not available, notifying the necessary leadership and ensuring that staff are debriefed following any critical incidents
  13. Collaborates with the Program Manager, Administrative Assistant to the Residency Programs and Shift Supervisors to ensure appropriate training of all direct care staff
  14. Ensure monitoring status forms are completed accurately
  15. Accepts additional assignments and responsibility as requested by supervisors.
  16. Assists the Program Manager to ensure the appropriate hiring, orientation, and training of Mental Health Workers
  17. Attends weekly staff meetings and clinical rounds in REGIONS
  18. Coordinates with HR to schedule TCI trainers for pre-service and re-certification
  19. Assist in the milieu when coverage is needed

20. Participates in the on-call rotation for staffing related issues including call outs to ensure appropriate coverage to meet program needs.

21. Complete all Relias training (online and in person) by due date.

22. Other duties as assigned to meet program needs.


IV. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:


  1. A bachelor’s degree in social work or related field with 2 years experience overseeing youth in a congregate care setting, or an associate degree with at least 4 years of experience working with youth in a congregate care setting
  2. Experience in implementing a group living environment
  3. Must display effective communication skills in working with children, families, and other staff
  4. Must fulfill competency-based training requirements in TCI and TRI Model
  5. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  6. As essential staff, you must be able to work outside normal business hours, if needed (ie. evenings, weekends and holidays). This role is considered and classified as “essential” to the operations of the Agency


V. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  1. Bi-lingual
  2. Knowledge of cultural diversity and childhood development
  3. Previous experience supervising staff
  4. Certified in CPR/First Aid and DCF Medication Administration
  5. Knowledge of the public sector mental health including, DCF, Beacon and other community providers
  6. Certified TCI Trainer through Cornell

  1. 3rd Shift Supervisors


VII. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


  1. Ability to perform TCI consistent with program policy and procedure
  2. Ability to climb stairs


VIII. WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:


  1. Some travel may be required 
  2. Must be able to maintain a flexible schedule in order to provide supervisory coverage as needed
