Lift Station Electronic Instrument Technician:
Performs skilled electrical and electronics work in the maintenance, installation, and repair of various electrical and electronic equipment in the Wastewater Collections division. This is a skilled, journeyman position, working independently under the general direction of the Collections Supervisor and/or the Assistant Operations Manager.
Position Duties
- Review blueprints and schematics for new and existing electrical and electronics equipment
- Issues and completes work orders in the SEMS work order system
- Works with outside contractors when necessary to ensure equipment is operating properly
- Performs daily and weekly checks on vehicle
- Assist the Water and Wastewater plants as necessary
- Accurately maintains maintenance reports
- May be required to participate in on-call rotation for response to after-hours calls
- Ensures the County’s SCADA communication/alarm system is operating properly
- Uses and updates the County’s GIS as needed
- Ensures work vehicle is stocked with the necessary tools and parts
- Ability to follow safe working practices
- Ensures motor integrity through routine Preventative Maintenance testing
- Ensures a constant supply of clean power to the electrical and electronic equipment
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience:
High school diploma or GED supplemented by technical training or college courses in electrical or electronics and (5) five years of electrical and electronic systems maintenance and troubleshooting experience.
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:
- Valid FL Driver’s License
- Individuals who are hired into this position must obtain their Class “C” and “B” Wastewater Collections certifications within six months of attaining the hands-on service hours experience that is required for each certification.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Ability to understand complex electrical, electronics, and telemetry systems.
Ability to troubleshoot electrical and electronic issues concerning lift station operations and identify and take corrective action
Ability to maintain emergency backup generators
Ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and electronic panels
Working knowledge of relays and telemetry equipment and ability to make necessary adjustments and repairs
Working knowledge of float control systems and ability to troubleshoot and make necessary repairs
Working knowledge of 4 – 20 Milliamp circuits and ability to troubleshoot and make repairs
Working knowledge of digital and analog signals and ability to troubleshoot and make repairs
Ability to calibrate various electrical and electronic meters
Working knowledge of three-phase and single-phase electrical systems and ability to troubleshoot and make repairs
Working knowledge of large and small switch gear and ability to troubleshoot and make repairs
Working knowledge of AC & DC circuits and ability to troubleshoot and make repairs
Knowledge of SCADA system operations
Knowledge of motor control centers
Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Software and ability to maintain accurate maintenance records
Knowledge of occupational hazards associated with electrical and electronic maintenance and ability to comply with safety protocols.
Knowledge of safety principles associated with electrical and electronic maintenance
Ability to read and interpret electrical and electronic blueprints and schematics
Ability to interpret oral, written, and technical information associated with electrical and electronic equipment
Familiarity with Lock-Out Tag-Out procedures and Arc-Flash safety prevention
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, contractors, and the general public
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Ability to work alone and with minimal supervision
