Job Statement

Installs tests and maintains electric meters.  Maintains inventory and record of work performed.

Essential Duties

  1. Reads, tests, installs and maintains all types of electric both in the field and in the shop.  Reads gas and water meters.
  1. Installs and removes all types of meters, recorders, instrument transformers.
  1. Inspects, tests, and maintains all types of instrument transformer metering in the shop and in the field.
  1. Constructs and maintains field instrument transformer metering installations.
  1. Keeps maintenance and inventory records on meters, recorders, instrument transformers.
  1. Investigates potential meter problems and customer complaints of metered values and determines actual circumstances and appropriate action, including repair or replacement of metering equipment.
  1. Interacts with customers, contractors, and utility personnel on metering and service issues.
  1. Issues meters to personnel responsible for installation.

Additional Duties

  1. Assists with the on-the-job training of less experienced meter technicians.
  1. Terminates service conductors at the transformer on new services greater than 600 amps.
  2. Works cut orders, set orders, and rem orders on services greater than 400Amps including CT services and bolt-in meter bases.
  3. Work trouble calls on services over as required.
  4. Promotes safety rules by using proper tools, equipment, and procedures, and helping others to do the same.
  5. Performs work consistent with applicable codes, safety concerns, HU requirements, and good business practices, and helps others to do the same.
  6. Promotes customer goodwill.
  1. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education/Training/Certifications:  High school graduate or equivalent.  Must have completed applicable Apprenticeship program or relevant higher level education from an accredited program. Must have successfully completed the TVPPA (or an approved equivalent) Electrical Metering Course.

 

Experience/Skills:

Three years total in metering or operations in the Electric Meter Shop.

 

 

Additional Requirements

Equipment: 

Meter test equipment, vehicle, and two-way radio.

 

Physical Demands/Environmental Conditions:

Manual dexterity and strenuous outside activity in all types of weather including the ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs., prolonged standing.  May be exposed to electric shock.  Ability to readily distinguish similar colors and shades.

 

Other:

Subject to “on-call” and emergency duty, valid driver’s license, Class “A” CDL.

 

This position is considered a safety sensitive position. All employees in safety sensitive positions are subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
