About the role:

 

 

Join the Housing Policy and Program team as a Data Scientist, Lending Portfolio Analytics. We are seeking a strategic and analytical professional to monitor and assess financial risks across lending portfolios, using advanced data tools and modeling techniques. This role plays a key part in stress testing, scenario analysis, and aligning risk insights with business strategy, regulatory expectations, and data governance standards.

 

 

What you'll do:

 

 

  • Monitor financial risks (credit, market, provisioning) across lending portfolios by analyzing performance data and identifying early warning signals.
  • Support stress testing and scenario analysis to assess portfolio resilience under changing economic conditions.
  • Analyze large datasets using Python, R, SAS, SQL, and big data tools (e.g., Spark, Cassandra, Hadoop) to generate actionable insights.
  • Conduct financial modeling, including loss projections, and evaluate impacts on provisioning strategies.
  • Collaborate with finance, treasury, and risk teams to align insights with risk appetite and business needs.
  • Enhance data reliability through strong governance practices and contribute to forward-looking risk assessments and industry compliance.
     

 

What you should have:

 

 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, or equivalent experience. 
  • A solid understanding of financial risk fundamentals, including credit, market, and provision-related risk, and the distinction between expected vs. unexpected loss. 
  • Experience working with mortgage or loan data, including performance tracking and provisioning metrics. 
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL for data analysis and transformation; familiarity with R, SAS, or Alteryx is a plus. 
  • Strong communication skills to present findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders. 
  • Hands-on experience with Power BI or other Microsoft reporting tools. 
  • Experience manipulating large datasets and working with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop). 
     

 

It would be great if you also had:
 

 

  • A professional designation such as CFA or FRM (You hold or are pursuing). 
  • Worked in a financial institution or risk-focused environment. 
  • Experience working with macroeconomic indicators, interest rate data, and housing market trends. 
  • Contributed to risk reporting or dashboard development for executive audiences.
