Department: Office of Research Services, Innovation & Entrepreneurship
Hours: 35 hours per week (1) one hour lunch; Mon – Fri (8:30 am – 4:30 pm)
Reporting To: Executive Assistant

Duties and Responsibilities:
This position, reporting to the ExecutiveAssistant and working closely with other team members, is responsible forsharing and marketing the work of the research centres within the Office ofResearch Services, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (ORSIE). Key duties include executing on acommunications strategy to raise awareness of ORSIE and our research, craftingcommunication products and campaigns, coordinating ORSIE’s social mediachannels, event planning, and producing a monthly e-newsletter.
Planning, evaluation,tracking, and reporting:
- Work collaboratively with managers and researchers to develop communications materials like impact stories, brochures, social media campaigns and events.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate strategies to meet communications and marketing needs.
- Evaluate activities on an ongoing basis, revising and refining efforts to ensure maximum effectiveness and impact.
- Maintain records to track all activity levels on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
- Collaborate with the Communications and Marketing Department to leverage resources and maximize impact.
- Collaborate with a team of work study students, monitoring their completion of assigned work based on student skillsets and departmental needs.
Social media:
- Help develop, implement, maintain, and monitor ORSIE’s social media strategy.
- Lead communications and engagement on all ORSIE social media channels.
- Create engaging social media content to increase post performance and increase recognition of the Durham College and ORSIE brands.
- Advise on social media trends, platforms and tools.
- Mentor work study students who are hired to support communications and outreach.
Events and outreachactivities:
- Coordinate large scale events, working closely with other members of the team to lead the organization of ORSIE special events that celebrate successes and opportunities relating to engagement, including booking platforms, venues and/or equipment, printing materials, and providing photography and videography support. This includes multiple events over the course of a year, like our annual flagship impact expo.
- Support ORSIE outreach activities by creating presentation slide decks showcasing ORSIE team expertise and available resources for prospective partners, college community, external conferences, etc.
- Coordinate logistics and requirements for tours of the Centre for Innovation and Research for external stakeholders
Written communications:
- Analyze research projects and data into appropriate communications products for advocacy and external information sharing across diverse types of stakeholders.
- Develop written reports such as industry impact stories, research highlights, centre brochures and our annual report to enhance knowledge translation of the important work of ORSIE.
- Write content and/or edit digital communications, including webpages with interactive media.
- Publish a monthly external e-newsletter on ORSIE news, events and success stories.
Administration:
- Covers front office area (CIR113) in the event other staff are in meetings/taking their break(s)
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a three-year diploma/degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or Graphic Design.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience working in communications, social media, photography/videography, and/or graphic design.The ideal candidate will have had experience in all of these areas.
- Familiarity with communications strategies and collecting and analyzing metrics on reach, relevance and relationship.
- Experience in a postsecondary environment is a strong asset.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal, organizational, planning, project management, time management and prioritization skills and the ability to coordinate project deadlines and scheduling of resources.
- Demonstrated strong business acumen and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with external partners.
- Ability to be proactive in taking initiative, and anticipating, identifying and resolving issues.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member, and maintain appropriate service standards required to work with diverse stakeholders including post-secondary, community, government, municipal and industry representatives.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in all matters related to students, staffing and programming.
- Use of discretion and understanding of confidentiality, intellectual property, and trust.
- Possess a valid Ontario Class "G" driver's license and access to a vehicle.
