About us
The Francis Crick Institute is Europe’s largest biomedical research institute under one roof. Our world-class scientists and staff collaborate on vital research to help prevent, diagnose and treat illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, infectious diseases and neurodegenerative conditions.
The Crick is a place for collaboration, innovation and exploration across many disciplines. A space where the brightest minds can pursue big and bold ideas and discover answers to crucial scientific questions. We support them in a dynamic environment which fosters excellence with state-of-the-art infrastructure, cutting-edge facilities, and a creative and curious culture. We’ve removed traditional boundaries of departments, divisions and disciplines and instead have an open approach that supports every researcher. This gives us the freedom to take risks and carry out high-quality, pioneering research. Creating a space for discovery without boundaries helps us to turn our science into benefits for human health and the economy.
About the role
The Francis Crick Institute’s Genome Function Laboratory’s mission is to develop and deploy powerful genome editing tools to explore how genetic variants impact biological function. By systematically dissecting the mechanisms underlying human genotype-phenotype relationships, the lab’s work promises to advance the application of human genomics.
The Findlay lab was established in 2020, and currently is home to 2 postdocs, 4 PhD students and 1 staff research scientist. The lab and the Crick are highly committed to maintaining a supportive research environment, and strongly value collegiality and sharing of expertise.
As a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Findlay lab, you will lead independent research projects with considerable autonomy to influence the course of the science, whilst benefiting highly from the collaborative environment of the lab.
This is a great opportunity for you to develop in your research skills and make major contributions to the field of functional genomics.
If you have expertise in functional genomics, biotechnology, computational biology, or a related area of research, and are passionate about technology development and the generation of large-scale experimental data, we would love to hear from you!
See the full job description here.

What you will be doing
Multiple post-doctoral projects are available depending your area of interest. We are keen to better understand how variants in the human non-coding genome lead to disease phenotypes by studying fundamental mechanisms of gene regulation. In this broad area, potential projects include:
- Developing new multiplex assays to study effects of variants on gene regulation
- Developing strategies to record complex molecular phenotypes to DNA
- Employing prime editing to produce massive data sets designed to advance computational models to predict gene expression
- Revealing new mechanisms of genetic disease by assaying large sets of variants prioritised from human cohorts, leveraging databases such as Genomics England
About you
You will have:
(Minimum criteria *)
- PhD awarded or in the final stages of PhD submission *
- Strong track record of scientific contribution, as evidenced by publications, preprints, or submitted manuscripts *
- Expertise in bioinformatics, human genomics, or analysis of high-throughput data *
- Deep knowledge of molecular biology *
- Ability to clearly document work and communicate results effectively
- Ability to work efficiently as part of a team
