Are you detail-oriented, organized, and passionate about contributing to one of the UK’s most ambitious water infrastructure projects? The Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA) is searching for a Species Lead (Mammals) to support and enhance our project delivery team. 

 

What will you be doing as our new Species Lead (Mammals)? 

Responsible for leading survey work and the technical aspects of assessment for: bats, botany, mammals or ornithology; you will be responsible for leading the coordination of ecology surveys, data management, mitigation, and reporting in relation to species specialism.  

 

Successful delivery of the role will require close collaboration and an understanding of the Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) and Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA) process. 

 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Leading the coordination of ecology surveys, data management, mitigation, and reporting 

  • Scoping and specifying technical impact assessment work, including Habitats Regulations Assessment 

  • Lead the technical aspects of the delivery of assessment work 

  • Drafting and final review of text for assessment reports 

  • Leading stakeholder engagement whilst ensuring compliance with the client’s quality, cost and time requirements. 

 

A little bit about your skills, experience and behaviours: 

This job might be for you if you have:  

  • A qualification or equivalent professional experience in a relevant environment or technical discipline as per the EcIA guidance. 

  • Chartered or full accredited membership (or working towards one) from a relevant professional institute or equivalent. 

  • Experience of leading the delivery of a particular ecological specialism, such as species specialism/licences, EcIA or HRA. 

  • Experience of managing teams and prescribing and implementing mitigation measures. 

  • Experience of ensuring first and second line of defence assurance of content to ensure deliverables are as per the client’s time, cost and quality requirements. 

  • A relevant NE Class Licence is desirable. 

  • Effective written and verbal communication, and organization/analytical skills.
