Rapid City Medical Center is excited to offer a full-time Certified Medical Assistant position in our Dermatology department. In this role, you’ll assist physicians with patient care, handle clerical and organizational tasks, manage appointment scheduling and charts, and provide patients with the information they need to fully benefit from our clinic services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include: checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting routine lab specimens, preparing for exam, etc.; collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines; performing aseptic procedures, taking vital signs; nonintravenous injections; administering medications by unit dosage as ordered by the physician; observing & reporting patients’ signs or symptoms; administering basic first aid; assisting physicians/nurses with various procedures; charting; relaying instructions to patients/families per physician direction; answering calls and providing pertinent information to the physician.
- Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include: sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms/requisitions as needed; scheduling appointments; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing and charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately.
- Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned which may include: setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocol; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; cleaning sterilizer according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records; ordering, sorting, storing supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
- Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned which may include: respecting/promoting patient rights; responding appropriately to emergency codes; sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisors quickly.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION: High school diploma. Graduate from an accredited medical assistant program.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one year’s work experience in medical service.
REQUIREMENTS: Active Medical Assistant Certification. Maintains CPR certification.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of health care field and medical specialty.
- Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to particular medical specialty.
- Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Combination of office and exam offices.
- Shared workspace.
- Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations. Hepatitis B vaccination and TB test required.
- Well-lighted, well-ventilated, adequate space.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
- Varied activities including sitting, walking, stooping, lifting, bending, reaching.
- Occasional stress from workload.
- Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics techniques when making necessary patient transfers and helping patients with walking, dressing, etc.
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds of supplies.
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.
- Manual dexterity for using a computer keyboard.
