Job Description Summary
Provide a positive visitor experience while monitoring and assisting with security at Texas Science & Natural History Museum. Interact with visitors of all ages and conduct oversight of building facilities during museum operating hours and for special events.
Responsibilities
Assist in the safety and security of Texas Science & Natural History Museum by monitoring and protecting visitors, exhibitions, building, and grounds. Provide clear guidance, direction, and information to ensure that all visitors have a positive and welcoming experience. Provide knowledge of museum amenities, exhibitions, and events to visitors.
Document and report observed physical interactions with exhibits and collections by visitors, and address any inappropriate behavior in a confident, calm, and friendly manner. Report any missing, damaged objects, or unusual conditions to supervisors. Report any irregularities pertaining to building operations, safety, or fire hazards.
Follow museum policies and security procedures to assist in the opening and closing of the museum, daily operations, and during special events. Assist with set-up of furniture and other equipment as needed for events. Actively participate in training programs to improve knowledge of the museum, security best practices, and customer service skills.
Serve as initial responder in the event of an emergency, know evacuation procedures and routes, contacting a supervisor when appropriate. Act in a calm and decisive manner in assisting in the evacuation of the public and staff from the building during fire alarms or other emergencies.

Pay: $20 per hour
Required Qualifications
Genuine interest working with the public and the ability to engage with individuals in a variety of situations
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
Commitment to fostering welcoming environment for all museum visitors
Ability to remain calm, organized, and effective when directing others during emergency situations
Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team setting
Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and personal initiative
Flexibility to work weekends and evenings as needed
Preferred Qualifications
At least one year of previous experience in a museum or other cultural organization
Educational background or interest in science and natural history
Familiarity with Texas Science & Natural History Museum (formerly known as Texas Memorial Museum)
Current certification in AED, CPR, and First Aid
Working Conditions
Use of manual dexterity
Climbing of stairs and ladders
Must be able to stand and walk for several hours at a time
Must be able to lift 50 lbs and push 75 lbs.
Work Shift
Tuesday and Thursday availability from 10am-5pm.
Varies weekly Tuesday through Sunday; some evenings.
Must be able to work Saturday and/or Sunday and university holidays.
