Job Title: Medical Records & Billing Specialist Classification: Full Time - Non-Exempt

Horwitz, Horwitz, and Associates is a progressive family-owned law firm, located in Chicago's loop, who has represented Illinois' injured for over three generations. We are passionate about seeking justice for those who have been injured and who may have been previously denied representation. We are seeking to fill the role of Medical Records & Billing Specialist, with a focus on medical malpractice and nursing home cases, at our Firm.
About the Role:
The Medical Records & Billing Specialist is responsible for obtaining, maintaining, and documenting our clients' medical records and bills in preparation for trial or settlement of the case. The ideal candidate for this role will contribute to a high team morale with excellent communication and organizational skills, is detail-oriented and thrives in a fast paced and high-volume work environment.
Duties and Responsibilities: include the following, but are not limited to:
- Submit requests for relevant medical records and bills and ensure timely retrieval to continue forward movement in the case
- Review of medical records and bills for accuracy and identification of possible missing providers and dates of service
- Create medical index with provider information, dates of service, etc
- Input pertinent medical information and billing into index and case management software
- Ensure medical records and billing info is updated to client cases accurately and timely
- Maintain positive working relationships internally and with third parties
- Ensure invoices for medical records and bills are submitted, processed, and documented accurately and timely
Success Factors /Qualifications:
- REQUIRED: 1-year minimum experience working with medical records and bills
- Exposure to Personal Injury Law is a strong asset
- Experience in medical coding/billing is highly valued
- Knowledge of medical terminology, regulations, confidentiality, and HIPAA compliance is a plus
- Able to work both independently and contribute to a positive team environment
- Self-motivated and goal driven
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Effective written and verbal communications skills
- Superior attention to detail and a high level of organization skills
- Commitment to providing outstanding customer service both internally and externally
Salary & Benefits:
- Compensation range is $43,000 - $48,000 annually and depends on experience
