IGNACIO SCHOOL DISTRICT
DISTRICT MECHANIC

The District Mechanic is under the supervision of the transportation director and/or the
superintendent, to perform repairs and regular maintenance keeping school district buses, vehicles and
grounds equipment in proper operating condition.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Must have training in diesel and gas powered equipment and vehicles.
2. Must have experience diagnosing and repairing diesel and gasoline engines, vehicle
computerization systems, electrical systems and suspension systems.
3. Must furnish basic hand tools required for mechanic duties.
4. Must have a current commercial driver’s license or able to obtain one
5. Must have a current CPR and first aid card training or have it within 90 days.
6. Must be physically able to perform all duties of the job. Position requires ability associated with
prolonged periods of heavy physical labor. Position regularly performs heavy physical labor
requiring ability to lift, carry, push, pull and move heavy objects or material. Physical demand for
strength and endurance. Require lifting over 50 pounds on a continuous basis.
7. Must be brake qualified per federal regulations or must be eligible to be brake qualified as
required by CDE regulations.
8. Must be able to pass and retain state inspector qualifications as required by CDE.
9. Must be 21 years of age.
10. Must demonstrate competence to make mature judgments on mechanical matters.
11. Must be able to complete repair requests and monthly reports as required.
12. Ability to work in harmony with other people.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The District Mechanics responsibilities include:
1. Diagnosing and repairing breakdowns on all district vehicles and grounds equipment as needed
2. Performing routine maintenance of all district vehicles, establish and have in place a system of
preventive maintenance.
3. Adhering to standardized workplace safety standards and maintain a clean and neat work area.
4. Maintaining daily and monthly reports and service records on all vehicles.
5. Responding to emergency needs of vehicles on 24 hours basis.
6. Being available to drive bus route if no substitute is available.
7. Performing annual inspections on school vehicles as required by federal and state regulations.
8. Performing other mechanic related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
REPORTS TO: The Transportation Director
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 209 days per year with salary and benefits as per board policy.
