Atlas Roofing Shingles and Underlayment is seeking a Lead Mechanic for Clinton, IA.
Lead Mechanic Primary Responsibilities
- Team Leader with good communication skills and hands-on leadership.
- Leads, directs, and motivates employees within the maintenance department.
- Leads in troubleshooting and equipment repairs.
- Ensures that all maintenance work is released and ready for operations.
- Requires strong problem-solving skills, and a team-oriented person.
- Effective interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Communicates with other team members to coordinate activities to achieve department goals.
- Coordinates work performed by outside vendors.
- Performs and oversees inspections in his/her area of responsibility.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask effectively.
- Performs preventative hands-on maintenance.
- Prioritizes the maintenance and repairs of company equipment and parts.
- Must be proficient in creating work orders.
- Must be able to use hand tools and power tools.
- Familiarity with electrical power and safety practices.
- Must be proactive and engaged in all repairs.
- Well-rounded industrial maintenance skills.
- Willingness to train others with hands-on demonstrations.
- Assist with the development and sustainment of the Preventive Maintenance (PM) programs.
- Mentors and trains other technicians by motivating, providing guidance and directions to help them achieve the department and plant goals.
- Reviews and plans work orders for accuracy and clarity: clear scope of work, correct equipment identification, realistic lead times and completion dates; discusses details with originator of the work order.
- Communicates schedule to all resources: maintenance, quality, and production.
- Participate in project teams to replace, upgrade or expand plant equipment.
Lead Mechanic Experience
- Minimum of eight (8) years’ mechanical experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Must be able to work rotating shift schedule and overtime.
- Prior experience leading a team.

- Adapts to changes in the work environment; manages competing demands; changes approach or method to best fit the situation; and, able to deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events.
- Completes work in timely manner and strives to increase productivity.
- Observes safety and security procedures, reports potentially unsafe conditions, and uses equipment properly.
- Consistently at work and on time, remains on duty until relieved or given permission to leave.
- Follows instructions, commits to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals, and completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate person as needed.
- Basic understanding of computers.
- Good oral and written communication skills
Lead Mechanic Education, Licenses & Certifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Certificate of completion from having successfully completed designated Class “C”, Class “B” and Class “A” Maintenance Mechanic TPC training modules.
