About This Opportunity
Are you ready to shape how the world sees cutting-edge science? As the Senior Communications Officer at UQ’s Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN), you’ll lead the charge in crafting compelling stories that spotlight our research breakthroughs and partnerships. From digital campaigns to industry engagement, you’ll be the voice behind AIBN’s growing reputation.
You’ll work closely with researchers, facility managers, and UQ’s central media team to deliver integrated communications strategies that elevate our visibility across three priority areas. Whether it’s scripting a feature on personalised cancer vaccines or curating content for social media, your work will help connect science with AIBN’s internal and external stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Developing and implementing strategic communications and engagement campaigns
- Creating high-quality content across digital, print, and multimedia platforms
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to identify and promote media opportunities
- Internal communications and reporting on campaign effectiveness

About You
You’ll be a natural storyteller with a flair for translating complex ideas into engaging content. You’ll also bring:
- A degree in journalism, communications, or a related field, plus relevant experience
- Proven ability to develop and deliver integrated communications strategies
- Strong writing and editing skills across multiple formats and platforms
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders in a complex environment
- High-level organisational skills and attention to detail
- Familiarity with digital tools and social media
- Desirable: Experience in the research or higher education sector.
The successful candidate may be required to complete pre-employment checks including right to work in Australia, criminal history, and education verification.
