JOB DETAILS

 The Parent Child + (PC+) Early Learning Specialist, visits toddler and young preschool homes with books and educational toys on a twice-weekly basis to engage families and their young children in positive interactions to facilitate learning. 

 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Visits assigned families twice a week, for thirty minutes each visit. Communicates and collaborates with family as needed for scheduling visits.
  • Brings a new book or toy with guide sheet during the introductory visit, which the family gets to keep.
  • Facilitates appropriate ways for parent/caregiver to verbally interact with child using the toy or book.
  • Reviews the book or toy during the second visit. Collaborates with family on additional ideas. This is called the review visit.
  • Creates an atmosphere in which the parent/caregiver feels comfortable in participating.
  • Respects the role of the parent/caregiver as the child’s first and most important teacher.
  • Uses linguistic and cultural responsiveness to strengthen child and family relationships to improve outcomes of parent-child engagement and child school readiness.
  • Ensure a foundation of inclusion and belonging and establish a culture and sustained practice of shared accountability for the implementation of the National ParentChild+ program for positive family and child outcomes.

 

In addition, the Early Learning Specialist (ELS):

  • Writes a Home Visit record for each home visit which includes descriptions of what the ELS did, what the parent/caregiver and child did, and interactions between parent/caregiver and child.
  • Keeps paperwork up to date, organizes and submits reports and timesheets within required timelines. These include but are not limited to: CBT/PACT and/or ASQ-3, ASQ SE-2, PIEL (beginning, mid and end of year), ASQ consents and questionnaires, home visit records, VISM sign out forms (ELS & participant), end of year evaluations. Enters and updates schedule of visits in Daisy database.
  • Assists families with the completion of the ASQ/PIEL as needed.
  • Attends the weekly staff meeting led by the PC+ Coordinator and contributes to discussions.
  • Attends any required or relevant trainings and participates in the End of Year Graduation.
  • Learns techniques for using toys and books to increase verbal interaction between parent/caregiver and child.
  • Shows responsibility for the toys and books issued by signing out books and toys.
  • Is supportive of other Early Learning Specialists and is constructive when offering advice to others on staff.
  • Respects the privacy of all the families. Maintains the confidentiality of all families enrolled in PC+. Shows good judgement in the discussion of sensitive family issues at staff meetings and personal conferences with the Coordinator.
  • Maintains a non-judgmental attitude toward program families.
  • Has some basic knowledge of child development and models for the parent/caregiver appropriate behavioral expectations of two, three and four year old children.
  • Exhibits flexibility when working with young children and family members in the home setting.
  • Works independently and responsibly.
  • Refers any outside inquiries to Program Coordinator.
  • Knows to have fun within the context of the program!

 

 

 

An offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment physical, including a drug test, National fingerprint-based Criminal Background Check (NCBC) and Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI).  All MUST be completed PRIOR to the start of employment.
