Purpose of Role:


The Family Law Department at Mandelbaum Barrett PC is seeking a knowledgeable and dependable Legal Assistant/Paralegal to provide dedicated support in the department. This role is essential to the smooth operation of a busy and fast-paced family law practice. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of family law, excellent organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and sensitive matters with professionalism and efficiency while working closely with the legal team to support practice needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct support to a Partner, including managing calendars, deadlines, and case schedules.
  • Draft, proofread, and prepare pleadings, motions, Case Information Statements (CIS), settlement agreements, subpoenas, discovery requests and responses under attorney supervision.
  • Conduct legal and factual research, and review/summarize discovery, financial records, and expert reports.
  • Assist with preparation for depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials, including exhibits, witness lists, and trial binders.
  • Communicate with clients regarding case updates, document requests, and filings, handling all interactions professionally.
  • File court documents electronically (e-filing) and liaise with court staff, experts, and opposing counsel as needed.
  • Maintain organized case files (electronic and paper) and monitor timelines to ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Support billing processes, including preparing draft bills and reports, and tracking collections.
  • Provide backup assistance to other attorneys in the department as needed.

Qualifications and Required Skills:

  • Minimum of 3+ years of family law experience, with both paralegal and legal assistant responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of New Jersey family law principles, statutes, court procedures, and rules.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Kofax; experience with case management or e-discovery software a plus.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and drafting skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and work effectively with clients in sensitive or high-stress situations.
  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed.

Compensation & Benefits: This position offers a salary range of $62,000 - $85,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, and qualifications. Support staff may also be eligible for discretionary year-end bonuses and a merit-based increase. The posted salary range reflects the base pay range for this position.
