About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and driven Continuous Improvement & Engineering Intern to join our team. The right candidate will be excited to learn the manufacturing process firsthand and gain valuable experience working with both manual and CNC machines. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to contribute to process improvement, develop technical skills, and support real-world manufacturing projects.
What You’ll Do
- Learn and support machine setup and teardown across a variety of equipment, including:
-Manual and CNC lathes
- Manual and CNC vertical milling centers
- 3, 4, and 5-axis milling centers
- Sinker and wire electrical discharge machining (EDM)
- Collaborate with engineering to create CAM packages (for top performers), including CAD models, CNC programs, tool sheets, G-code generation, and work holding solutions.
- Support and track continuous improvement initiatives to drive efficiency in CNC milling, lathe, grinding, finishing, shipping, and coatings.
- Participate in larger company-wide improvement projects.
- Engage directly with employees on the shop floor to gather feedback and identify improvement opportunities.
- Perform ROI and savings calculations to support project proposals.
- Conduct and document After Action Reviews to capture lessons learned and best practices.
- Share information, findings, and successes across teams and facilities to promote continuous learning.
Requirements
What We’re Looking For
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering (all disciplines), or Manufacturing.
- Knowledge of Lean and Continuous Improvement methodologies, including Value Stream Mapping, problem-solving methods, project charters, and delivery schedules.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort with manufacturing software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all organizational levels.
- Ability to maintain and track action items (RAIL – Rolling Action Item List).
- Strong attention to detail and reliable follow-up skills.
- A proactive attitude with a sense of urgency and initiative.
- Commitment to working safely and following all procedures and best practices.
