- Required to use ladders in the course of the daily duties and personnel lifts for service work of equipment and fixtures.
- Projects a positive image for Kentwood Public Schools with his/her team, whenever the public, guests or visitors are in the building. (Develops and implements team approach.)
- Works closely with the Building Manager and/or administrators to be prepared for scheduled evening activities as needed, and unscheduled events.
- Responsible for the general repair, maintenance of educational equipment, heating-ventilating units, lighting, plumbing and other school equipment (except for equipment that is under contract by outside repair firms).
- Responsible to maintain an established preventive maintenance program to include associated records. The PM program will identify daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly duties.
- Administer operation and maintenance of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment district-wide.

- Carpentry
- Equipment
- Vehicles
- Boilers
- Welding
- Roofs
- Unit Heaters
- Engines
- Heating Equipment
- Anything that may need to be repaired that is part of the building or grounds of the school
- Possess a valid Michigan’s driver license. Ability to obtain and maintain State of Michigan Certificate of Pool Operator certificate (CPO)
- There is a high probability that contact with Bloodborne material will occur within your daily duties.
- All duties and procedures are to be performed within health safety standards as per OSHA and MIOSHA.

- Receive and accomplish work and repair orders from the Manager of Operations.
- Maintain tools and equipment assigned.
- Obtain purchase orders for ordering or obtaining of equipment and supplies.
- Drive trucks and other maintenance equipment.
- Adjust thermostats as required.
- Replace light bulbs, tubes and ballasts.
- Replace broken glass in windows, doors and partitions.
- Repair plumbing leaks and unclog drains (including the operation of plumbing snakes).
- Replace broken ceiling tiles.
- Inspect buildings for deficiencies such as cracks in walls and floor coverings that need replacing.
- Perform general masonry and other building structural and finish surface work.
- Periodic checking and lubrication of damper air motors, all mixing, volume, fresh air, re-circulating, and bypassed dampers when scheduled.
- Check and lubricate unit ventilators and other motors when scheduled to do so.
- Internal cleaning of boilers during the off-heating season.
- Major repair of all valves, including Sloan flush valves, mixing valves, hot and cold water faucets, Bradley wash fountains, and siphon valves, as required.
- Adjust and make major repairs to drinking fountains.
- Immediate changing, or replacements of light switches, convenience outlets, secondary, fuses, ballasts, etc.
- Major repairs of door keys, and panic hardware, including door checks.
- Check and repair air conditioning units.
- Pack pumps and valves.
- Plumbing maintenance on Aquatic center.
- Snow removal as directed by the Manager of Operations.
- Installation of Aquatic center equipment and supplies as required.
- Pickup supplies, parts or equipment from vendors as directed. Care and use of supplies and equipment.
- Place all supplies in proper storage areas.
- Notify the Manager of Operations if supplies or materials are of inferior grade.
- Be responsible for condition, safety and proper operation of all mechanical equipment, oiling and greasing properly at regular intervals.
- Notify the Manager of Operations of any maintenance or repairs of equipment that cannot be handled by the maintenance person.
- Ability to work in an economically, culturally and racially diverse environment.
- Shall be adaptable to working around children.
- Shall possess skills maintaining school buildings in a manner acceptable to the general health and safety standards of school buildings.

Position: Maintenance
Summary: Responsible for maintaining the assigned district building in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the education program.
Schedule: 8 hours/day – 5 days/week – 52 weeks/year
Essential Job Functions:
General Responsibility:
The Maintenance person is responsible for providing the necessary leadership to keep assigned buildings clean, safe, functional and secure in accordance with prescribed codes and established District Policies and Standards.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises the duties and responsibilities of the zone maintenance staff.
Qualifications:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions funished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule forms.
Certification, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid driver's license with good driving record. CDL endorsement relative to assignment.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to pass a district written and physical test. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
