Your role as a Purchasing Manager
As a Purchasing Manager, you’ll be at the heart of our biggest construction projects—making sure materials, suppliers, and timing all come together. This isn’t just about buying—it’s about leading a team of buyers, solving challenges before they happen, and keeping projects running smoothly from planning to completion. You’ll negotiate smart deals, build strong supplier relationships, and balance cost, quality, and delivery so our teams (and customers) can count on us every time. But your impact goes beyond the day-to-day. You’ll help shape long-term procurement strategies that save money, improve processes, fuel Harris’s growth, and position Purchasing as a true strategic partner across the organization. If you love blending leadership with hands-on execution, this role is built for you.
Purchasing Material & Equipment and Technical Expertise
Keep our biggest projects on track by planning, creating, and fast-tracking purchase orders for critical materials and equipment.
Team up early with project crews to forecast needs—digging into drawings, take-offs, and bills of material to make sure every detail lines up.
Stay one step ahead by tracking orders, spotting risks, and jumping in with solutions—whether that’s expediting, finding a new supplier, or getting creative with logistics.
Run RFXs like a pro, compare supplier proposals, and choose the partners who deliver the perfect mix of cost, quality, and on-time results.
Solve PO and invoice hiccups fast and keep our systems clean, accurate, and up to date.
Supplier Relationship & Cost Management
Build rock-solid partnerships with suppliers that deliver more than just materials—accountability, reliability, and innovation.
Negotiate like a champ, locking in great pricing and holding vendors accountable for their promises.
Anticipate risks before they become problems and partner with vendors to raise the bar on quality and performance.
Drive serious cost savings by analyzing trends, tapping into rebate programs, and focusing on total cost of ownership—always keeping projects and Harris’s bottom line in mind.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Project Support
Be the voice of purchasing on project teams, jumping in from day one to final delivery.
Team up with Project Managers and field leaders to make sure materials are there when needed, at the right price, and with no surprises.
Share insights on material options, equipment choices, and alternate sourcing strategies that give projects an edge.
Keep communication flowing—making sure stakeholders always know where things stand and how we’ll solve challenges.
Process, Systems & Continuous Improvement
Spot smarter, faster, better ways to handle purchasing and turn them into real improvements.
Be the system guru—collaborating with IT and others to push for better tools and stronger data.
Dig into data to uncover what’s really going on, then turn insights into action plans that stick.
Lead initiatives that boost the entire supply chain and create repeatable wins across Harris projects.
People Leadership
Lead with trust, connection, and collaboration—bringing out the best in your team.
Coach, mentor, and cheer on your team—helping them grow stronger through feedback, encouragement, and opportunity.
Spark professional growth with training and education that set your people up for success.
Celebrate wins, set clear expectations, and hold everyone (yourself included) accountable to deliver results.
Inspire with positivity, confidence, and vision—creating a team that feels motivated and valued.
Guide your team through change with clarity and confidence, making transitions smooth and successful.
Build a culture of safety, engagement, and collaboration where everyone feels empowered to contribute.
Live the Harris values every day—being the role model for the culture we’re building.
