Job Summary:
 The Maintenance Supervisor leads, coaches, and motivates maintenance personnel to ensure efficient and safe operation of all machinery, equipment, and utility systems. This role is pivotal in fostering a collaborative team environment focused on continuous improvement, safety, and high-quality maintenance standards. The Maintenance Supervisor ensures compliance with safety regulations, promotes employee development, and supports organizational goals through effective maintenance management and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Facilitation:

  • Provide direct facilitation, guidance, and development for maintenance team members across the facility.
  • Assign, schedule, and prioritize maintenance tasks to achieve operational goals and minimize downtime.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and implement disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Facilitate training programs to enhance team skills and knowledge, ensuring compliance with safety and technical standards.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and safety-focused team culture that encourages employee engagement and accountability.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Champion workplace safety by enforcing compliance with OSHA standards and company safety policies.
  • Lead safety initiatives, including regular safety meetings, audits, and incident investigations to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Coordinate with HR, Health, Safety, Environmental & Security (HSES), and regulatory agencies to maintain compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Oversee hazardous waste handling and disposal procedures, ensuring all team members are trained according to regulatory requirements.
  • Promote use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to lockout/tagout, confined space, and emergency response protocols.
  • Hazardous Waste

This position may have to collect or transport hazardous waste from the point of accumulation to the point of disposal. This position will require training in both the awareness level of hazardous waste operations, and the operations level. This training will be conducted at the time of hire, and annually thereafter.  Individuals in this position must be able to comply with site procedures related to hazardous waste and must at all times mitigate the regulatory risk associated with hazardous waste operations.

Maintenance Management:

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve maintenance strategies, policies, and procedures aligned with operational needs and quality standards.
  • Monitor equipment performance, schedule preventive maintenance, and oversee repairs to maximize equipment reliability and lifespan.
  • Manage inventory levels of tools, parts, and supplies to maintain efficient workflow and minimize downtime.
  • Analyze maintenance data and reports to identify trends, root causes of failures, and opportunities for process improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support production schedules and operational objectives.

Quality Assurance:

  • Support and uphold the company’s Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with relevant industry standards (e.g., IATF 16949).
  • Ensure maintenance activities meet quality requirements and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation to support audits and compliance reviews.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Continued education in a technical or vocational school or associate’s degree in industrial maintenance, electrical, instrumentation, mechanical engineering, or related fields preferred.  Bachelor's degree a plus.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of progressive experience in maintenance facilitation or supervision within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Strong hands-on background in electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
  • Working knowledge of PLCs is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and/or instrumentation knowledge preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex maintenance operations.
  • Willingness to take continuing education classes

Skills & Competencies:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with all organizational levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with experience interpreting technical documentation and maintenance data.
  • Proficient in using maintenance management software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work under pressure, adapt to changing priorities, and promote a culture of continuous improvement.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing, stooping, and working in various environmental conditions.
  • Must have good vision (including color and depth perception) and hearing to safely perform duties.

Work Environment:

  • The ability to work on-site at the Watertown, New York facility is an essential function of this position. Regular in‑person attendance during scheduled hours is required. Work is performed in an industrial setting with exposure to machinery, noise, airborne particles, and occasional electrical and height-related hazards.
