This role will be responsible for defining optimal design solutions and physical systems that integrate with sophisticated electro-magnetic devices.
You'll spend your time:
- Translating functional and non functional requirements into sophisticated conceptual designs, ensuring adherence to regional design codes
- Designing and analysing mechanical components and systems using advanced CAD and FEA software tools
- Conducting comprehensive structural, thermal and dynamic analyses to optimise product performance and reliability
- Performing detailed failure mode and fatigue life assessments to identify potential weaknesses and ensure long term robustness under operational loads
- Utilising simulation tools to generate highly accurate static and dynamic models encompassing (but not limited to) mechanical, acoustic, thermal, electromagnetic radiation (EMR), noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) characteristics
- Applying advanced thermal analysis techniques, including transient and steady state heat and mass transfer modelling, combined CFD analysis of traditional and phase change cooling methods
- Collaborating with design engineers to integrate CAD design and FEA analysis seamlessly into the product development process, providing recommendations for vibration damping, fatigue mitigation or thermal optimisation
- Generating technical reports and presentations to effectively communicate analysis results, insights and recommendations to all stakeholders
- Designing robust inspection and testing plans, and actively participate in laboratory and field based testing of systems, ensuring close correlation with simulation results and hardware performance
- Fostering a collaborative environment by acting as a role model and mentor, providing guidance on CAD design, FEA modelling, analysis techniques and result interpretation to team members and colleagues
The key experience we're looking for:
- Proven track record of success as a Mechanical Engineer in a relevant field
- Proficiency in SolidWorks modelling, Ansys simulation packages and Windchill PLM
- Additional expertise in 2D and 3D drawing for complex, regulated systems
- Solid understanding and practical application of design engineering principles and requirements analysis
- In depth knowledge of static and dynamic simulation modelling, coupled with strong capabilities in vibration and harmonics analysis, fatigue life prediction and thermal performance modelling
- Demonstrated experience applying failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and fatigue analysis to mechanical systems
- Master's Degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field
The following would be advantageous:
- Experience working within a highly regulated industry
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
- Experience with experimental vibration and fatigue testing, modal analysis, and thermography
