About the job.
We’re looking for a Principal Estates Surveyor to join our Estates and Facilities team in our Business Services Directorate. As a Principal Estates Surveyor, you’ll provide strategic property advice across the National Highways operational and managed estate, supervising estates inputs into projects to make sure the organisation complies with property legislation and has an estate of the right size, condition, and location.
We operate a hybrid working approach, with a minimum of 2 days per week to be spent within the office. This role can be based from any of our UK offices. This role attracts 20% speculative pay with the salary banding being £54,180 to £76,944 per annum, depending upon skills and experience.
- Provide expert advice to National Highways on property management, property acquisitions/disposals and on Landlord/Tenant issues in relation to the implementation of property solutions for the organisation.
- Provide effective leadership and guidance on all property matters, mentoring staff and encouraging the development of capabilities to improve business performance through continuous improvement of work methods.
- Manage the activities of the company’s property supply chain (professional real estate advisors, agents, and solicitors), particularly the management of a diverse property portfolio comprising residential, agricultural and commercial land use.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely and effective flow of reporting and information.
- Provide strategic guidance and support and manage resources, planning, forecasting and conflicting priorities to ensure a positive outcome and VFM on all property transactions.
About you.
- Qualified Chartered Surveyor with relevant experience (Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors).
- Sound knowledge and experience of managing a diverse property portfolio, implementing estates/property strategy, property acquisitions, disposals and landlord and tenant’s matters.
- Experience of managing people successfully, enhancing their capability and focusing on effectiveness.
- Evidence of successfully delivery Estates projects on time.
- Experience of project and contract/supplier management with property consultants and legal advisors.

External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
