Located at Simon Fraser University's Surrey campus, Fraser Library supports teaching, learning, and research at SFU. We are a unique facility providing access to full range of library services and collections including books, journals, media, games and equipment.

About the Role

Provide exceptional customer service as the primary first point of contact for students. Provides circulation, intra- and inter-library loan, reserve and information services to users. Processes and circulates equipment (e.g., camcorders, circuit boards, laptops) and performs basic tests and minor maintenance to ensure proper functioning of equipment. Maintains Library stacks and serials. Trains, assigns and directs work of the student technicians. Creates and updates records, processes reserves and operates cash register. Responsible for the Library in the absence of the Head Librarian and Loans and Equipment Supervisor.

Qualifications

High school graduation and general courses of moderate duration (one semester or equivalent), including courses or training in library studies and database, word processing and spreadsheet applications. 3 years of related experience. An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study and experience is acceptable.

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to exercise mature judgment and initiative.
  • Good oral, written, interpersonal and intercultural communication skills.
  • Ability to use integrated library systems, database, spreadsheet, word processing, email and web publication applications (e.g., Ex Libris Alma, Excel, Word, Outlook and Drupal) at an intermediate level.
  • Good knowledge of library terminology, methods and practices.
  • Ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance on media equipment (e.g., digital cameras, camcorders, lighting kits, data projectors) using common hand tools (e.g., screwdriver).
