Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Young Adult Program Manager, the Assistant Program Manager will be responsible for support, guidance, and oversight of several components of Urban Peak programs and will be a leadership presence during the evenings. This includes response to emergency situations, supporting shelter floor coverage on a regular basis, shared oversight of QMAP, HMIS/Salesforce data quality, and support with the training of new Life-skills Managers. Additionally, the Assistant Program Manager will support with overall program planning and evaluation, along with directly supervising 2-4 Life-Skills Managers, and/or full-time volunteers/interns.

This position will ensure that interactions, interventions and environments at Urban Peak are trauma informed and emphasize the physical and emotional safety of youth and staff.

Who You Are: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a human services or a related field and three years’ related work experience OR 
  • A Master’s degree in social work, psychology or a related field and a minimum two years’ of experiences    working with youth. 
  • Experience with youth experiencing homelessness and/or residential supervision preferred
  • Desire to grow as a leader and demonstrated leadership competency
  • Able to connect and work effectively with a diverse youth population
  • Able to connect well, work effectively and communicate in a culturally responsive manner with a diverse youth population
  • An understanding of trauma informed interactions and/or a willingness to learn and adopt this approach
  • Ability and desire to work within a crisis intervention agency
  • Must be QMAP certified or eligible for QMAP certification
  • Lived experience reflective of the youth we serve encouraged but not required.
  • Must be computer proficient and possess experience in MS 365 environment including Teams (e.g. Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Understanding of the provision of and commitment to trauma informed care and positive youth development
  • Must be insurable as a driver on Urban Peak’s auto liability policy in order to conduct business on behalf of the agency or transport youth using an Urban Peak vehicle and an approved personal vehicle.
  • Ability to use second language in written and verbal communication desired but not a requirement (most common languages in Denver Metro area – see HR for details. 
  • Must pass both federal and state background checks
  • Must pass pre-employment TB screening.

 

What You Will Do:

General Job Duties

  • Provide guidance to youth that is based in the principles of trauma informed care and positive youth development
  • Conducts and/or participates in teamings with persons involved with youth
  • Acts as a positive role model to further Urban Peak’s goals
  • Attends all required training, and staff meetings being prepared to address staff and client issues
  • Collaborates with other agencies for service delivery needs, staying current on resources and developments in this area
  • Works the majority of their shift (5p-10p) on the floor supporting youth and Life-Skills Managers

 

Program Oversight

  • Provide program oversight for assigned programming and employees
  • Provide guidance to youth that is based in the principles of trauma informed care and positive youth development
  • Plan and coordinate new hire training
  • Provide appropriate emergency interventions, as needed, and/or guide staff in providing such intervention
  • Document relevant and significant events that occur during the shift in the Communication Log; provide clear and effective communication with other staff regarding clients
  • Assist Program Manager in the planning and facilitation of staff meetings 
  • Assist Program Manager in updating relevant employee and youth housing handbooks to ensure accuracy

 

Quality Assurance

  • In conjunction with the Program Manager, maintain compliance with all grant requirements along with other program policies and procedures
  • In conjunction with the Program Manager, responsible for HMIS/Salesforce completeness and quality assurance of electronic and hard copy youth files along with compliance with QMAP and all public health and safety standards for the shelter
  • Ensure accurate program intakes and recording of client services along with quality assurance and quarterly reporting on program standards

Supervision

  • Effectively supervises and manages direct reports and provides, by example and leadership, motivation and direction to employees of the organization.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable state and federal employment laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; recognizing and rewarding employees; corrective disciplinary procedures and practices (under direction of the Young Adult Program Manager), addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Ensures annual employee performance reviews are conducted in a timely and effective manner.  Evaluates performance of employees for compliance with established policies and objectives of the organization and contributions in attaining objectives.
  • Helps set the tone of the department to ensure morale, teamwork, and positive employment culture of the organization is maintained.
  • Regularly schedules department and staff 1:1 meetings to provide leadership, development, and a forum for communication to ensure coordination and collaboration in meeting organization and individual goals.
  • Manage program and grant budgets and report monthly variances to supervisor and Director of Finance.

Who We Are:

Founded in 1988, Urban Peak is the only non-profit organization in Denver that provides a full convergence of services for youth ages 12 through 24 experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk of becoming homeless. Our goal is to meet youth where they are and to provide them with the assistance and support, they need to become self-sufficient or obtain the necessary services they need to exit a life on the streets.

 

Urban Peak provides numerous programs and services that are founded on the principles of trauma-informed care and Positive Youth Development to assist youth in reaching their potential and living a successful life off the streets. Services include street outreach, a 136-bed shelter for youth ages 12 through 24, daytime drop-in services, supportive housing, education and employment services, case management, life skills courses, behavioral health evaluations, meals and more.
