Matrix has a new full-time opportunity in Phoenix, Arizona for a Senior Groundwater Modeler/Hydrologist to join our team of experthydrogeological and environmental consultants. The successful candidate will report to top Matrix leadership and will be responsible for developing, overseeing, and managing groundwater flow and solute transport modeling projects that address complex water resources and contaminant remediation challenges. This position requires technical expertise, outstanding communication skills and strong attention to detail.
What you'll do
Develop and implement groundwater models to support water resources management projects
Develop and apply solute transport models to support contaminant plume characterization and remediation projects.
Analyze hydrological models including storm water management modeling, aquifer test analyses, groundwater modeling and groundwater monitoring results.
Conduct risk assessments creating visual models and monitoring the quality and distribution of water.
Manage modeling aspects of larger projects and model-centric projects including developing and tracking scope, schedule, and budget.
Acquire, organize and analyze hydrogeologic and environmental field data.
Participate in field investigations (such as groundwater sampling, well installation, and pumping tests), help design field efforts and identify data needs.
Set up and execute mathematical models.
Perform quality-control checks on model input and results.
Participate in and lead project meetings, proposal preparation, report writing and presentations.
Develop statistical and graphical comparisons of model results and data.
Perform other duties as needed.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in geology, hydrology, or environmental science
Master’s degree in geology or hydrology preferred
10+ years in the hydrology field, with focus on groundwater modeling
Proficient use of Microsoft Office Software Suite: Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint
Expert knowledge of groundwater modeling (analytical and numerical), including development of conceptual hydrogeologic models
Deep experience in numerical model design, construction, calibration, and sensitivity analysis
Experience using ArcGIS Desktop and/or QGIS working with geospatial databases
Experience with MODFLOW and/or other groundwater flow and transport modeling codes
Preferred Requirements
Familiarity with inverse modeling using PEST and pilot point parameterization
Strong communication, information technology, and data management skills
Advanced proficiency in working with model datasets using text editors, spreadsheets, and computer programs
Experience interpreting geologic, hydrogeologic and analytical data to develop and use conceptual hydrogeologic and predictive computer models
