Emerald Technologies has an exciting opportunity for a New Product Launch / Component Engineer to join its Saline Lectronics team! 

The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of electronic components, circuit design, and manufacturing processes. This role involves selecting, validating, and qualifying electronic components for various projects, ensuring they meet technical specifications, customer and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities of the New Product Launch / Component Engineer:  

  • Evaluate and select electronic components for various products based on performance, reliability, and cost.
  • Analyze and interpret component datasheets and specifications to ensure compatibility with customer requirements.
  • Understand Requirements: Collaborate with the design team or clients to fully understand the requirements and specifications for the components needed for the project.
  • Verification Against Standards: Check that the components meet industry standards (e.g., ISO, IPC) and any specific project requirements. This may include size, voltage, current ratings, and environmental conditions.
  • Work closely with customer’s hardware design engineers to determine component specifications and sourcing strategies.
  • Provide recommendations on alternative components to mitigate supply chain risks or design challenges.
  • Supplier Qualification: Conduct evaluations of suppliers to ensure they have the necessary certifications and quality control processes in place.
  • Communication Needs: Clearly communicate the specifications to suppliers, confirming that they can meet the required criteria.
  • Monitor the lifecycle status of electronic components, including obsolescence management and end-of-life notifications.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure consistent component availability and assess the impact of any changes to component specifications.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of component evaluations, test results, certification documents, and communications with suppliers.  This is critical in a contract environment to maintain transparency with our customers.
  • Ensure all selected components comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., RoHS, REACH, IPC).
  • Identify and implement best practices for component selection, testing, and documentation processes.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to inform component choices and strategies


Qualifications of the New Product Launch / Component Engineer: 

 

    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in electronic component engineering, design, or related roles.
    • Proven experience with component testing methodologies and failure analysis.
    • Proficient in using CAD tools for schematic capture and PCB layout (e.g., Altium, OrCAD, Valor, or similar).
    • Strong understanding of analog and digital electronic principles.
    • Familiarity with laboratory test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analyzers).
    • Proficient in complex formulas: Ability to use advanced functions like VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, INDEX, MATCH, and XLOOKUP for data retrieval.
    • Conditional logic: Expertise in applying IF, SUMIF, COUNTIF, and nested formulas to create dynamic calculations.
    • Component Selection: Utilize Excel to perform a comparative analysis of components based on various parameters, facilitating informed decisions on component selection in design phases.
    • Cost Analysis: Create cost models that consider various component options, assessing the impact on project budgets and timelines.
    • Automation: Develop macros to automate repetitive tasks, such as updating component libraries or generating standard reports, thereby improving workflow efficiency.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.


Additional Preferred Skills

    • Basic understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including:
    • Blueprint reading and interpretation.
    • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
    • 3D printing techniques and capabilities.
    • 3D design software proficiency.
    • Project management experience and methodologies.
    • Process improvement strategies and tools.
    • Data analysis skills for informed decision-making.
    • Knowledge of Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA).
    • Experience in tool making and fabrication.
    • Knowledge of supply chain management and vendor relationships.
    • Experience with embedded systems design and development.
