ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES:

The Executive Director of Information Technology serves as a strategic leader overseeing all technological initiatives to support the institution’s academic and administrative objectives. This position bridges the gap between the senior leadership and the IT team. The Executive Director of IT is responsible for aligning technology strategy with the institution’s long-term goals and providing high-level direction for all IT functions. This role directly supervises the director-level IT staff and focuses on innovation, compliance, security and operational excellence.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Develop and lead the College’s IT strategic plan. Create and execute a comprehensive IT vision aligned with the institution’s academic mission, strategic goals, and accreditation standards.
  2. Collaborates with senior leadership and functional managers to align technology with the college’s mission and strategy.
  3. Oversee core campus systems and data architecture.  Ensure the security, integration, and performance of enterprise systems such as the Student Information System (SIS), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and data reporting tools.
  4. Strengthen information security and compliance. Lead cybersecurity strategy and ensure compliance with FERPA, GLBA, and other education-specific regulations and data privacy requirements.
  5. Enhance the digital student experience. Implement technology that improves access to academic advising, registration, career services, and other student-facing functions to promote retention and engagement.
  6. Drive institutional data governance and analytics. Develop a data-informed culture through strong data governance, institutional research collaboration, and robust analytics platforms to support decision-making.
  7. Direct IT operations and infrastructure. Oversee the college’s technology infrastructure, including networks, data centers, cloud services, classroom AV systems, and help desk support to ensure seamless operation.
  8. Build Campus-wide collaboration and transparency. Serve as a bridge between IT and campus stakeholders (faculty, students, administrators) to promote shared understanding, co-creation, and adoption of digital solutions.
  9. Supervise and develop IT staff. Recruit, mentor, and retain a skilled and mission-driven IT team. Encourage a culture of service, inclusion, and continuous learning aligned with higher education values.
  10. Manage the IT budget and external partnerships. Align technology investments with institutional priorities. Along with Director of Business Solutions, lead the procurement and vendor management, ensuring responsible stewardship of resources and maximizing ROI.
  11. Oversees feasibility studies, planning, and prioritization of technology projects.
  12. Plan for business continuity and emergency response.  Develop, maintain, and test disaster recovery plans to ensure continuity of operations in the event of outages or crises.
  13. Champion innovation and digital transformation.  Identify and lead initiatives that modernize campus operations, improve service delivery, and keep the institution competitive in an increasingly digital educational landscape.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field required.
     Master’s degree strongly preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Progressive leadership experience in IT, ideally in a higher education setting.
  • Experience managing large-scale technology initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success working with senior leadership while mentoring and developing staff.
  • History of improving IT efficiencies and reducing costs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Position will require the ability to frequently reach, stand, walk, bend, twist, grasp, sit, talk, hear, see, climb and perform repetitive motions.
  • Position will require the ability to lift and carry items up to 20 pounds, and push/pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.
