OVERVIEW

The National Museum of American History empowers people to create a just and compassionate future by exploring, preserving, and sharing the complexity of our past. The Experience Development Team creates interpretive programs and installations for museum visitors that expand their experience beyond exhibitions. We engage, empower, and inspire visitors through history, sparking dialogue and building relationships with visitors through personal interactions and hands on learning—all building toward a lively, active, and thought-provoking museum experience. We foster dialogue and create community by connecting people with the museum and each other.

The primary purpose of the position is to assist with the production of creative programming related to the Museum’s Center for the Understanding of Religion in American History (CURAH), an interdisciplinary research and programming initiative. Programming will include museum theater programs, facilitated interactives, and other activities that directly engage the public.  This position will plan and coordinate logistical details of programming, including the coordination of schedules, timelines, and budget; assisting the Theater Programs Manager with the scheduling and oversight of actors and facilitators; and the development and rehearsal of new programs.

This position has promotion potential to the IS-1001-11 grade level. This position requires occasional work on evenings, weekends, and holidays in accordance with Smithsonian Institution policy. This position will require a regular work schedule that include Saturdays or Sundays (e.g., Tuesday - Saturday; Sunday - Thursday) during peak visitation season to support Museum programs, in accordance with Smithsonian Institution policy.

·         Ensures that all administrative and logistical arrangements are carefully organized and considered, and that program objectives are met through adequate research and planning.
·         Works closely with Experience Development team to establish and coordinate production schedules and ensure all program and administrative staff, other Smithsonian staff, and external contractors and partners are aware and mindful of these deadlines to manage the workflow required for projects.
