Position Summary:
The Plumber is responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of all plumbing systems on the Saint Mary’s College campus. This includes water supply lines, drainage systems, gas lines, and associated fixtures and appliances in academic buildings, residence halls, dining facilities, and administrative offices. The position requires a strong understanding of plumbing codes and safety regulations, along with a commitment to maintaining a safe, functional, and efficient campus environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, repair, and maintain pipes, valves, fittings, drainage systems, and fixtures in campus facilities.
- Diagnose plumbing issues and perform timely repairs to minimize disruption to campus operations.
- Conduct routine inspections of plumbing systems to ensure proper function and compliance with relevant codes.
- Maintain and repair campus water heaters, boilers, and gas systems.
- Clear clogged drains, replace washers, and repair or replace leaky or damaged pipes.
- Read blueprints and building plans to determine layout and materials required.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies, including after-hours calls as needed.
- Collaborate with other maintenance personnel, contractors, and college staff to complete projects.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent on jobs.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure personal and public safety.
- Assist with other general maintenance duties as assigned by supervisor.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Exposure to potentially hazardous materials and situations.
- May be required to work evenings, weekends, or respond to emergencies as needed.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; completion of a plumbing apprenticeship or technical program preferred.
- Valid plumbing license or certification (as required by state or local regulations).
- Minimum of 3 years of plumbing experience in a commercial or institutional setting.
- Knowledge of plumbing systems, tools, equipment, and applicable building codes.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Physical ability to perform manual work, including lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
