Job Description – Fire & Safety Executive (Mall Operations)
Position: Fire & Safety Executive
Role Purpose
To ensure fire prevention, protection, and emergency response systems in the mall are fully operational, compliant with statutory requirements, and effectively managed to safeguard life, property, and business continuity.
Key Responsibilities
🔹 Fire Safety Operations
- Conduct daily checks of Fire Alarm Systems, Sprinkler Systems, Hydrant Systems, Fire Extinguishers, Emergency Lights, and PA System.
- Monitor fire pump operations and ensure diesel/electrical pumps are in auto mode with adequate fuel.
- Maintain Fire Command Room (FCR) logbooks and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
- Supervise housekeeping and tenant staff regarding fire safety compliance inside stores and common areas.
🔹 Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure compliance with NBC, NFPA, IS standards, and local fire department norms.
- Maintain records of fire drills, fire equipment maintenance, and licenses (PESO, Fire NOC, AMC reports).
- Coordinate with statutory authorities for Fire NOC renewals and inspections.
- Prepare incident reports, near-miss reports, and safety audit reports.
🔹 Emergency Preparedness
- Plan and conduct Fire Drills, Evacuation Drills, and Mock Drills for mall staff, tenants, and contractors.
- Train security, housekeeping, engineering, and tenant staff in the use of fire extinguishers and emergency procedures.
- Act as first responder in case of fire, gas leak, or other emergencies and coordinate with external fire services.
🔹 Tenant / Contractor Safety
- Review and approve tenant fit-out works from a fire safety perspective.
- Monitor hot work permits, confined space entry, and ensure PTW (Permit-to-Work) system is followed.
- Inspect tenant shops for compliance with fire safety guidelines (no obstruction of sprinklers, smoke detectors, emergency exits).
🔹 Maintenance & Coordination
- Liaise with facility/engineering team for rectification of fire system snags.
- Ensure AMC contractors for fire alarm, suppression, and hydrant systems carry out timely maintenance.
- Verify readiness of portable fire extinguishers and conduct monthly inspections.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Zero fire incidents / compliance failures.
- 100% statutory compliance & NOC renewals.
- Successful conduct of evacuation drills (as per schedule).
- Timely resolution of fire system snags.
- Positive audit ratings (internal/external).
